Gabriel's Wharf

Hannah's favourite place - Gabriel's Wharf

Gabriel's Wharf was opened in 1988 as a response to the needs of local workers, residents and visitors. This temporary development offers local employees a chance to escape from offices, and a venue for unique shopping, as well as providing a relatively cheap base for small new businesses.

Situated just 2 minutes walk from Oxo Tower Wharf, you can watch as original pieces of sculpture, jewellery, ceramics, art, and fashion are produced. Or enjoy a drink, snack, or meal in one of the riverside restaurants or cafes which enjoy spectacular views of the City and St. Paul's. 'One of the nicest bits of the South Bank' - Evening Standard.

As you stare across the river at this bustling, stylish, multi-faceted venue, its hard to believe that this riverside warehouse was once a reprocessing plant for the Oxo Company, ripe for demolition only a few decades ago. The Oxo Tower now stands out, loud and proud, flanked by two green open parks and the colourful Gabriel's Wharf, with a riverside walk guiding amblers up to its refurbished doors.

Visitors now come in their droves to explore the shops, restaurants, galleries, cafes and studios that populate this once barren area. The best way to experience the Oxo Tower and Gabriel's Wharf is as part of a leisurely riverside walk along the South Bank; taking in The Tate Modern, The Globe Theatre and all the many pubs and sights that adorn the banks of the Thames.
