Our staff can help arrange tours from here in Colditz. They can provide information for independant travellers or guests wishing to go by taxi.

The following comments are from a group who took the tour by taxi:

The trip was exciting. We hired a local taxi for the day. it took about 3 1/2 hours to drive each way. we started off at 7.30 a.m. and were back at around 8 p.m. The tour with Jacek (Jakubek) director of Sagan Stalag Luft III exhibition needed 3 hours. One film and a visit of the exhibition needed 1 hour. We had a 2 hour walk through the forrest finding different signs for Harry, Tom and Dick. A few barrack grounds are still there. Our group spent 60 Euro (20 Euro per hour 2016) for directors translation from Polish into English. Without the tour guide we would not have found Harry. After the tour we had a short visit at the large train station with 16 railway lines (for a town of 30000 people) just 600 metres far from Harry.

The people involved and events linked with The Great Escape have been sealed in many peoples minds by the film The Great Escape.

Stalag Luft III - is where the camp it was based on. It is situated on the edge of the town of Sagan (Zagan), worth a visit if time permits, which was once in Germany but now part of Poland.
