Fashion and culture of Generation X

Generation X,the new group of young people who believe in indivdualism and modern lifestyles. Their lives are characterised by computers, television and other digital devices

Being inflienced by the mass media and western fashion trends, the Generetion X often have a uniform and unique sense of dressing. Their fashion tastes are based on the concept of casualness and simplicity. Shirts and jeans are often the choice, and gender differences in terms of clothing are often minimised. Men and women are capable of dressing in the same way.

Also traditional clothings or costumes like the "kilt" , "baju kurung", "cheongsam", "jubah"[Arabian dress] are no longer in favour as these Generation X are more comfortable in T-shirts and jeans. On the formal fashion scene.fashion trends are marked by all sorts of new-age designs likethe tube-tops and khaki pants. In terms of make-up,they are often comfortable in their simplest or most natural make-up,with the use of pastel shades and gloss or at times even without make-up at all. On the extreme end, there are also some Generation X who are into dark,black-based make-up,a sign of menace and authority, possibly to signal their unique identities.

Culture wise, the Generation X are most likely influenced by pop culture as television and the Internet become their most convenient source of information and entertainment. Frequencing night-spots like pubs and bars, chatting on the Net as well as shopping (today we even have cyber-shopping!) are just part and parcels of their lives.
