It's a new year, so we have a new look for the site. We will have a new look for our football team. There is still no word on what the fate of keeping our kids on the team are. I will be going to the meeting in Feb (as I encourage all to do) and hopefully we will know by then. I know that the League is leaning towards a draft for the Rookie Div. According to the schedule on the GBFL website we are having tryouts and a draft, but nothing has been set in stone. I was able to attend a few classes on Saturday at the Glazier Football Clinics. I did learn some things that I do plan on implementing this year. Heck, If I can learn it, the 1st and 2nd graders should be able to master it.
I am still waiting for parents from the team last year, to let me know if they want to be coaches. I would like to get with those individuals and start takling football and get to know where thier mind set is as far as offence and defence goes. just get ahold of me by e-mailing me at
[email protected] .
I have been told that we will be keeping our eligible returning players. This is great news. I look forward to seeing everyone eligible to return, return to the team. Dads, I am still waiting to hear if any of you want to be coaches.
There is a coaching clinic on Wed night at the High School for anyone wanting to coach next year. The high school coaches will be going over drills and teaching teq.

Go GBFL Illini
Well todday was Austin "Possum" Kremm's 7th b-day party. I got to see Saturday, Bull, Possum and oviously T-Rex at the party. Boys I tell you I am getting really excited about football and even entertaining a few bar-b-q's for the parents and kids of the returning football team. Just looking forward to the season.
Coach Moss
Well, we had a baseball draft today. Hunter was drafted to the Red Sox. He will be playing on the same team as Possum and Saturday. I know that Worthog, Bear, Smurf, Hot Rod are also in the A division. We look forward to playing against and with them at the same time. Have a great season and I'll see y'all at the ball park.
Coach Moss
Happy Easter to all. Try not to get a belly ach from all the candy.
Baseball has started. We won our first game 13-9 over the A's. The kids did very well in the game. Hitting was great. The one thing we need to work on is the feilding. But that will come in time.
Hope everyone is having a good time during the football off season. There is another football camp at Greenwood High School this Tuesday, Wed and Thursday. I do not belive that I will be able to go due to current baseball commitments with my oldest son. I hope that ya'll can attend and get a little football under ya'lls belt. If me and "H" can get there we will. Later.
We are getting closer to football. Only two months away from our first practice. I hope everyone is tellin their friends about football sign up. There is only one more physical registration day. That is June 14th at the VFW. You can still register on-line. Well, I'm going to give everyone a call to make sure they remember to get signed up.
Registration is over. It is now time
to start thinking about football season. I have designed new shirts for the
team. They look as
follows:

Coach Moss
We are getting closer to the first game of the year. We still need alot of work. Come ready to practice hard this week as we need to teach alot of new stuff in only 3/4 practices. This week we need to learn the huddle on offence and get everyone knowing their position on offences and defense. We are going to name our starters this week (everyone will start either on offence or defense. If you don't start on the offensive side of the ball, you will start on the defensive side of the ball).
Remember boys, we work hard so that in the game, it is easy.
Two days away from our first game. Wow! We need to get ready. These last practices are the time to ask "What do I do?" Game time is too late to be asking that question. Do it Thursday and Friday. Our team moms will be handing out or talking to each of the parents about times for Saturday. The most important time is 9:30 am for pre-game warm up. Our game is at 10:30 against the Irish. Boys, we will also be getting our jerseys tonight.
Today is the Day!!!!!! Where's my dogs at??!!!??!!!

Greenwood, Old City Park, 8-16-08- The Greenwood Fighting Illini started their season on Saturday with a heartbreaking loss to the Greenwood Fighting Irish 14 to 7. The game was a close fought affair with the Irish scoring in the first quarter to go up 6 to 0. The Illini came back to take the lead in the second quarter on a touchdown run by Garrett Howell of 65 yards (extra point good by Nathan Line). This gave the Illini a 7 to 6 lead going into halftime. The second half turned into a defensive battle. Late in the fourth quarter the Irish mounted a drive that resulted in the game winning touchdown with 3 seconds remaining in the game.
"The offensive line opened up great holes for our backs, G-Money (Howell) had over 100 yards rushing in his debut" Coach Moss stated. "The defense played well. Our linbackers ended up with 20 tackles between them (Carter, Moss, Howell, Line). Our D-Line caused 4 fumbles recovering 3 (Barr, Hestand, Paswater, Williams, Lind, Kremm). At the end of the game the Irish played a great game coupled with our (the coaching staffs) mistakes to get the win."
