WELCOME
(Bronwyn is 5 years old now, sometime in the future I will make her a more updated page of her own, but it's so funny seeing the difference between how boys behave and how girls behave. She loves kindergarten and is doing well. She loves Princesses and dressing up. We took her to DisneyWorld so that she could meet Cinderella and it was the best experience of my life to see the looks on the kids faces)
On to her baby journal:
We are expecting baby #4 on November 19! Right in between our two oldest boys. (Nov.6 and Nov.26) I have decided to keep an online journal partly because this is going to be our last one. Right now I don't have a lot to add. Just that I have a lot of problems during pregnancy, but hopefully everything will be okay. My first appointment is on the 11th of this month, so I will probably have something more to add then. They may do an ultrasound because I have had some cramping. Plus, they have to do another Pap Test because the one I just had came back atypical. Anyway, that's all for now. I'm sure I will have plenty to write about in the coming months.
April 5, 2001-I decided to go to a different doctor. I did not really care for the one that did my pregnancy test. I am so glad that I changed my mind. This new lady is wonderful. She is actually a midwife, I have not met the doctor yet, but I am sure that I will, as I should be having surgery around the 2nd week of June. I have to have a cerclage, (a stitch to keep my cervix closed), put in because it is incompetant, (it won't stay closed on it's own.) My appointment was at 1:30 and I did not get home until 5:45! They were very thorough, I must say. I even had a transvaginal sonogram because I've had some bleeding. I had them with my last pregnancy also. I got to see the heartbeat for the first time today! Also, because of the sonogram they have changed my due date from November 19th to November 30th. I am usually early, so I am hoping to be out of the hospital by Thanksgiving. I don't want to miss all of the baking! I don't have another appointment until May 3rd.
May 3, 2001-Nothing exciting happened today. Mary tried to listen for the heartbeat, but couldn't find it. She said it was kind of early to hear it anyway. They had to redo my lead test, but that was about all. Have to go back on May 30 and have my cervix checked.
May 30, 2001-Checked my cervix today. Mary said it is very short on one side. It has always been that way. I don't know if that is why it is incompetent or not. She listened to the heartbeat and said it sounds like a boy. I told her it probably was a boy because I have 3 more at home. My blood pressure has been very good, 120/70. I can't figure it out because I have been on high blood pressure medication for 4 years. After my last child was born I went off of it originally because of insurance reasons, and then when I had it checked afterwards it was good. So, I have been off of it ever since. I am very happy about that. I hope it stays this way. Everything else is okay. I have a complete sonogram on June 15. They have to make sure everything is okay for surgery. I am hoping they will be able to tell me whether the baby is a boy or a girl. I am not sure if they will be able to or not, but it doesn't really matter anyway.
June 15, 2001-Had a complete sonogram today and I got to meet the Dr. for the first time. I usually see the midwife. They are 90% sure that the baby is a girl!!! It would be nice to have a girl because this will be the last baby we have. Everything else was good, except that I was a little dehydrated. The Dr. was very sweet, which was a relief because I've seen my share of bad Dr.'s.
My surgery is scheduled for 8:45 on Tuesday, July 3rd. I'm a little nervous because they had such a hard time getting the epidural in last time I had this done at the same hospital. I'll keep my fingers crossed that they don't have such a hard time. I'll just feel better when it's over. My next appointment is July 13. Just a routine appointment, probably nothing exciting.
July 3rd, 2001-Got to the hopital at 8:45am after dropping off Logan at grandma's. I didn't get a lot of sleep last night. As soon as I sat down they called me in. I got to go to my bed and put on a beautiful gown. :0) I also got some weird little stockings with a hole near the big toe. I haven't gotten those before. At least my feet weren't cold. They keep the OR rooms pretty cold. They checked my blood pressure, temperature, and gave me my I.V. They brought my husband in and I got to go right to the OR because the person before me didn't show up or got her time messed up some how. They gave me a spinal, which is uncomfortable, but not too bad. Unfortunately for me, they usually make me feel sick. Sure enough, about 10 minutes after it kicked in, I started feeling sick and very tired and heavy, like I couldn't breathe. They stick little things all over you to monitor everything, a blood pressure cuff on one arm, a thing on your finger to take your pulse, they give you a catheter, and they give you oxygen, which I really hate. Then they put your feet in some stirrups. They're not like the ones at the ob/gyn's office. These are fabric stirrups, (like elastic), that hang in the air. Then they tip the table back so that your head is down and the rest of you is way up in the air. I usually just try to close my eyes and go to sleep, but I don't usually feel good enough to actually sleep. It only takes about a half hour and then they take you back to recovery where you usually stay until you can move your feet a little bit. They keep checking your blood pressure and everything and then they remove your catheter. I started to feel sick again, I was 1 second away from throwing up, but for some reason I didn't. The nurse gave me some medicine in my I.V. to help me feel better. After that, I went back to my first room and my husband got to come back in. You basically just have to stay there until you can walk enough to use the restroom and then they check the baby's heartrate one more time, give you some paperwork to take home, and the dr. comes in to talk to you. Luckily, my spinal wore off pretty quick and I was released at 1:45pm. We took the opportunity to eat lunch by ourselves and then we went and picked up the kids. My back was really uncomfortable for the rest of the night and my head started to hurt a little, but all in all, everything went really well and I am glad that it's over. When they take the cerclage out, usally around 36-38 weeks, they just take it out in the office. It only takes a minute and it doesn't hurt. My next appointment is July 13.
July 13, 2001-Just a routine appointment today. Mary gave me a new magazine for moms and moms-to-be. It's a really nice magazine actually. She keeps talking to me about a natural birth. Personally, I'm looking forward to my epidural. I went through natural labor with my first three kids and then I had an epidural with my last one, and I must say the epidural was great!! I do feel like I'm cheating nature a little bit, but I think it's guilt that I can live with. :0) I think labor is a wonderful experience and nothing can diminish that. My next appointment is August 8. Just another routine.
