Introduction:
Over the past few millenium, the Bible has had a major impact on the development of art.  Events and people from the Bible often are the subject of pieces of art, and Biblical themes are present in artwork from various time periods and areas of the world.

Purpose Statement:
In every religion, the faithful express their beliefs, morals, and even doctrines through art.  Christianity is no different.  Since Christianity began, artists have depicted the teachings of Jesus, often in efforts to relay the meanings of parables and stories to the lay public.  In evaluating Christian art in different time periods, our goal is to assess the similarities and differences of how people express their faith through art.  In comparing Medieval, Renaissance, modern world and modern American Christian art, we will be able to trace the evolution of how faith and scripture play a role in the lives of people.  Some trends may remain continuous, while different expressions of faith arise from innovative forms of art.  With this website, we hope to be able to introduce our peers to the role that the Bible has played and continues to play in art.
