Subject:  Previous Idea of Reclamation Project

Palm Jumeirah, the smallest of the three Palm Islands (Palm Jumeirah, Palm Jebel Ali and Palm Deira). It is located on the Jumeirah coastal area of the emirate of Dubai, in the United Arab Emirates (UAE). The unique man-made island is built in the shape of a date palm tree and consists of a trunk, a crown with 17 fronds, and a surrounding crescent island that will form a water-breaker. The Jumeirah Palm island is primarily a retreat and residential area for living, relaxation, and leisure. It will contain themed boutique hotels, three types of villas (Signature Villas, Garden Homes, and Canal Cove Town Homes), shoreline apartment buildings, beaches, marinas, restaurants, cafes and a variety of retail outlets. The Palm Jumeirah will contain over 25 of the top international hotel brands including Movenpick Resort Oceana Palm Jumeirah, Moevenpick Resort & Spa Palm Jumeirah, Antara, Fairmont Palm Residence, Radisson SAS, Hilton, Metropolitan, Shangri La, One and Only Royal Mirage, Starwood, Marriott, Oberoi, Kempinski, Chedi, Taj Exotica Resort and Spa, Anantara Resort, and Dusit. Other developments will include Al Basri Building, Al Habool Building, Al Anbara Building, Emerald Palace, Oceana, and the Trump Plaza and Marina Residences. Construction began on the Palm Jumeirah island in June 2001.

In the nineties, one day I made the drawing of a reclamation project, in the shape of a hamburger, with water basin in the middle and a hotel on the sea shore. The location was still uncertain, since it was only a basic idea. It was only based on common sense, after realizing that some 40% parts of Jakarta, in the North, is lower than the sea level.

Therefore the design is to develop a basin on the sea shore to hold water from Jakarta's rivers, with a curve shaped dike to prevent the sea water from entering the lower parts of Jakarta. While the water from the rivers from Jakarta is pumped to the sea.

To make it more self sufficient, it is equipped with power plant, to make sure the pumping would keep on going even if the electric supply from the main power plant in Jakarta is in trouble. Also to make sure the water flow to the sea is clean, it is equipped with water treatment. Not necessarily the expensive high-tech water treatment plant, instead just the ordinary water treatment plant like those which produce drinking water in other parts of Jakarta, like in Buaran and Pejompongan.

It is also goes along with a canal, which in the upper parts is equipped with some artificial lakes to reduce the speed of water flow from the mountainous area a few kilometres to the South of Jakarta.

This idea was then followed by the appearance of a reclamation project in Kapuk, the development of a new vast real estate Pantai Indah Kapuk. Yet because the government was still in financial difficulties, especially after the monetary crisis of 1997 that engulfed some Asian countries, followed by the changing of power in the government, there was the problem of insufficient budget to increase the capacity of existing draining system, as well as to develop the new canal, therefore the flood problem was not yet overcome.

Abroad, a few years later in June 2001, construction began on the Palm Jumeirah island, the reclamation project with the curve shape surrounding it and the shape of a palm tree, in Dubai sea shore. Of course it is not of my concern about whether or not they were inspired by my idea. My concern is more about the ideas of preventing flood from engulfing Jakarta.

There could be a question, if my idea of canal toll road is to be realized, would it also contain the reclamation area like the Palm island in Dubai. Of course it is up to the investors, and to the local government. To be sure of, since the end of the canal toll road would be close to Soekarno Hatta airport, it should have no high rise buildings to make sure it would not disturb the airplanes take-off and landings. The buildings must be less than palm trees, or less than five stories building. And after all, this is still in the stage of basic idea.

Subject:  Doing Real Work for My Own Country

Another strong reason for me to reveal this idea here is to make sure I am doing real work for my country, not only telling unrelenting stories.

Previously I only tell stories about some people’s luck and unlucky moments that seem like related with my self, like the new important political positions for some politicians abroad, the Oscar winners, the Golden Globes, the merger of big companies, the acquiring of big companies, the transfer of Stars in sports, the glory of some famous athletes, and so on, all in the form of only stories that seem like related with my self.

So now after the big flood early February 2007. I feel concern to reveal my idea of canal toll road here. If it could attract you to put your investment, somewhat like when your investment in buying Four Seasons Hotel along with Saudis’ Prince Al Waleed, it would be a significant help for the government here. Therefore government's money that is supposed to be allocated for the flood prevention, like the budget for developing and revitalizing 200 lakes, could then be allocated for other significant fields.

Of course I should also apologize if my idea is not good enough to be implemented, because after all this is just a basic idea of a not famous painting artist who is still in question about whether or not having a sufficient brain contents.

Subject:  Investment Scheme Preferred

I prefer to use the word investment here, rather than loan, because since the reformation movement in 1998, Indonesia is flourishing to become a more democratic country. It would create a negative image for the people if after becoming a more democratic country Indonesia is still relying on loans from abroad. It would be better if it would be in the form of investment.
