Procedures

There is two different ways of cloning animals. As I will talk about on this page. The first procedure of cloning is called embryo splitting, witch is usually done on mammals. Mammalian cells have been cloned before just as reptile cells have been cloned. By taking the fertilzed cell from a different mammal and combining it with the egg from another mammal of the same species. By doing this the embryo grew to full size and became an adult that had the same characteristicks of the mammal that it was cloned from.

The scientific community was amazed when a single sheep showed up and this sheeps name was Dolly. Before Dolly was created scientists thought that cells that have already specialized had lost the ability to create new organisms. This was proved wrong by a scientist named Dr. Ian Wilmutt of the Rosalind Institute of Scotland. By usuing the genetic material from an adult Finn Dorset Sheep. They took the cells and placed them into a cell culture and starved them for a few days. Then the nuceous was removed and combined with the egg cell from a Poll Dorest sheep then they finally took the dividing embryo and placed it into the womb of a third sheep, a Scottish Blackface. The final result looked nothing like the Scottish Blackface who raised it it was a clone of the original Finn Dorset it was taken from. And that is how Dolly was created.
