Local Mountaineering Clubs of Greece


Greece's local mountaineering clubs, either belong to the E.O.O.S. ((Elliniki Omospondia Oreivatikon Syllogon) Federation of Greek Alpine Clubs), or to the E.O.O.H ((Elliniki Omospondia Oreivasias Hionodromias) Association of Mountaineering and Skiing). Some are members to both, while others, still remain independent.

The following directory of Greece's local mountaineering clubs, was initiately based on the extensive list of clubs that appeared in the (now defunct, mountain sports) magazine "Fyssi kai Peripeteia", issue 1, February 1991.
As the magazine's list is -obviously- an outdated one, I added new elemets from other sources, such as bulletins issued by several clubs and other publications.

The additional info about the mountain refuges and the ski centers that the local mountaineering clubs are in charge of, was based on the guide "Mountain Refuges and Ski Centers in Greece" (1991 edition) published in greek and english by the Greek National Tourist Organization.

The directory was last updated according to the list of mountaineering clubs and mountain refuges presented in the guide "Engolpion Oreivasias", by Gotfried Polykratis and Stelios Vasilopoulos, (published (in greek) by the EOS Aharnon, 1995, ISBN 960-85644-0-9)
