SYMPTOMS OF DEPRESSION

The following symptoms don't occur in everyone who has depression and the degree of symptoms may vary. If a person has four or more of these symptoms, if nothing can make them go away, and if they last more than two weeks, a doctor or psychiatrist should be consulted.

bulletPersistent sad or "empty" mood.
bulletFeeling hopeless, helpless, worthless, pessimistic and or guilty .
bulletSubstance abuse.
bulletFatigue or loss of interest in ordinary activities, including sex.
bulletDisturbances in eating and sleeping patterns.
bulletIrritability, increased crying, anxiety and panic attacks.
bulletDifficulty concentrating, remembering or making decisions.
bulletThoughts of suicide; suicide plans or attempts.
bulletPersistent physical symptoms or pains that do not respond to treatment.

 

DANGER SIGNS OF SUICIDE

The following is a list of possible signs of suicide:

bulletTalking about suicide.
bulletStatements about hopelessness, helplessness, or worthlessness.
bulletPreoccupation with death.
bulletSuddenly happier, calmer.
bulletLoss of interest in things one cares about.
bulletVisiting or calling people one cares about.
bulletMaking arrangements; setting one's affairs in order.
bulletGiving things away.

A suicidal person urgently needs to see a doctor or psychiatrist
