Borris is a small villiage in the south Carlow which is located in the SE of Ireland,  we are situated about 18 miles form both Carlow and Kilkenny City, and about 75 miles from Dublin.  The towns landscape is dominated by Mt. Leinster (976m) and the Blackstairs Mts.  The river Barrow the 2nd largest river in Ireland runs down by the side of Borris House estate.
Borris Castle was once the home of Arthyr MacMurragh Kavanagh who was the King of Ieinster. This was burnt down in the 1798 rebellion in Ireland and was then rebuilt to the way we see it today.

Also another famous trade mark in Borris is the Viducts at the bottom of the town, 16 arches soaring over a river and 2 roads this bridge once had trains running daily on it delivering beet to Carlow Sugar Factory and other destinations but with the closure of this line it hasn't been in use for many years, and it is now only a source for lovely leisurely walks.

Borris is a beautiful town, it only consits of one street which about 1 mile in length and slopes from top to bottom.  In the town about 500 people live, and the parish has another 500 + also. The town is famous for its annual fair called the 15th of August, this fair is about 500 years old and started out as a sheep and horse fair but now its just bascially a normal fair day.  The

The Scout troop has a catchment area of about 8 miles, with members from ajacent towns of Graig, Goresbridge, Ballinkillen, Ballymurphy, Bagnalestown and Paulstown.   Most of the Scouts activities concentrate on the Blackstairs mountains, the river Barrow and the 600 acres of natural woodland within the Borris House estate which Andrew Kavanagh so kindly lets us use when ever we want.
