Details of the Camp
A joint venture by Borris and Bennetsbridge in Feb 2004 will bring over 50 members to the Lecthal Valley in the North of Austria for a week of pure Skiing and Fun.  The trip is planned for the mid term period of the Feb 2004, where the scouts and leaders will enjoy 10 days of skiing and various other activities.
The trip is over and gone now with some fantastic memories and friends made once again.  The weather was fantastic with 5 out of the 6 days skiing under the blistering sun on some of the best skiing conditions for 10 years.  The bulk of the skiing was done in Holzgrau where there is 3 slopes 1 green, 1 blue and a black.  We stayed in a small village about 5 miles away called Haselgehr in House Marnix, which had a pub, petrol station and a chemist and lots of snow.  There was one small slope in the village that we used on the first evening as a training session...... The scouts really did love the slopes they all got on fantastic over the week with a few falls and 2 scouts airlifted off the mountain with minor injuries that didnt dampen their spirts one bit.
During the week the scouts were hit (including me) with a bad stomach bug that hit about 50% of the crew by the time the week was out, i think some of them were glad of the rest though.  The food was poor at times but with plenty of fund raising before hand allowed the scouts eat well in restaurants during the day.  We had a very active week with regard to activities with something on every eveining so they had no time for mischeif.  With tabogganing on 2 evenings, ice skating, swimming (indoor) and air rifle shooting the scouts were well occupied with all of them turning out to be a brilliant success - tobogganing being my personel favourite, when would you ever get a chance to scoot down a mountain as fast as you wish on a wooden sleigh with no brakes in the dark..... but being pulled back up along with 50 others behind a tractor is just as fun.  The Accommadation was simple and very good with plenty of dorms for all the kids and leaders, a 3 storey austrian house with a large basment for the ski gear.

Anyway to cap the week off we ended up at a large ski resort called Warth, where their is 60 slopes 30 chair lifts and lots of snow.... the scouts only got 5 hours skiing here which is unfortunate, next time we will get more time up there i hope......... I would like to finish off to say that how much i enjoyed the trip and that i would like to thank my scouts and martins scouts for their good behaviour on the trip and i am delighted to hear that everyone would love to revisit the snow again some time (sorry to all the parents)

We did have an unfortunate accident on the last day where one of our scouts was air lifted off to hospital with a head injury.... she and a few leaders did have to extend there trip because of this but all was well in the end thank god..............
Hopefully Borris or Bridge Scouts after 6 days
