| December 21-22 Yule is the time of the year when the God is reborn, it is also the winter solstice marking the official start of winter. We acknowledge that with his return, warmth shall return as well in the coming months and the blanket of cold and darkness shall soon disappear. The Sabbat can be celebtrated on December 21(or 22) depending on which it falls on in a given calendar year. The 21st also happens to be my wedding anniversary, yeah! Customs of this Sabbat are the yule log, burned in the fireplace or a cauldron. The log is the god's return, also, welcoming prosperity & protection into the home for the year. Save a piece of the log to be used for next year. The "Christmas" holiday is avoided by many wiccans due to it's christian association. However, these traditions are just as much pagan as, christian. First, there is evidence being discovered the Jesus was born in later, warmer months, like April, not in December. The colors, green & red are the colors of Yule. Yule can be celebrated from December 20th-31st, hence the twelve days of christmas, hehe! The yule tree is pine, decorated with friuts, acorns. Yule tidings, a time to exchange songs, stories & gifts with loved ones. Have you every heard anyone say "Yule Tide"? Makes you go hmmm. Back Next |
