In December 1996, a new Team was formed for R/C racing in Singapore. Many names were suggested, but one name stuck: Monster
Motorsports. The first aspect of R/C Racing that Monster Motorsports elected to contest in was Modified 1/10th Scale Touring Cars, and
the weapon that was selected was the YR4. Many thanks to Penguin R/C for
providing the first development chassis for Monster Motorsports.
Because of the lack of development time (the chassis arrrived barely two weeks before the race), the first race was a total disaster,
failing to even qualify. Well, it was back to the drawing board for the next half year before the bug-free Monster Motorsports YR-4SP
saw the light, in a club race in June. It performed better than expected, and took the B-main pole position, thanks to a well sorted
chassis, and the correct tires. Satisfied with the performance thus far, a second identical YR-4SP chassis was acquired, and built up
using hop-up options from various sources into the car that you see in the following photos, which was raced in mid-August 1997, but
only managed a D-main 7th place qualifying, and finished D-main fourth place, just out of the podium. To be absolutely honest, the
chassis was faultless, without a single mechanical failure the entire race weekend, and I will say that the car's capability far exceeded
the driver's, and hence the poor qualifying position. But Monster Motorsports will be back for another go at the top ranks.
