NEWS AND ANNOUNCEMENTS:

DIRK BENEDICT ARTICLE IN STARLOG: As noted by one of our mailing list subscribers recently, "Starlog #247 (February) has an article on Dirk Benedict. It mostly talks about Battlestar and Sssssss, but does have one paragraph on the A-Team. If you like Dirk, check out Starlog."

The article features some nice pictures, so definitely a good one to add to a collection.

GALACTICA BACK ON U.S. CABLE & COMIC SHELVES: Those Dirk Benedict fans out there who HAVEN'T yet seen & taped "Battlestar Galactica" will be pleased to know that the Sci-Fi channel has put the series back on the air. Check the VCR watch at the end of this issue for further broadcast information.

Also, after several months' absence, the Battlestar Galactica comic book series has been revived, now under the control of Realm Press. This new series is _completely_ unrelated to the series published by Maximum Press up through last year. It picks up right after the end of the original TV series' 1st season, and it seems Realm Press has the authorization to (thankfully!) use the images of the original cast, not just the character names. So yes, Starbuck actually _looks_ like Dirk this time. I recommend Galactica fans check out the new series, it looks quite promising (and the airbrushed artwork is lovely!)

MR. T GOSSIP IN "NEON": From [email protected] comes the following news tidbit:

'Neon' (Issue 13, January 1998), a British magazine covering movies had this to report...

Not rich T.
The once mighty Mr. T has fallen on hard times, with two years of uncollected garbage - in places as high as 10ft - piled up around his once-lavish mansion.

"T's house is falling down", his former friend and business partner Calvin Hollins told The National Enquirer. "There are broken windows, the chimney is coming off and T's wife Phyllis is so broke that last winter she was chopping up and burning furniture to provide heat in the house. T has got the house up for sale for $2.9 million - and he's trying to sell it before the town of Lake Forest, Illinois, condemns the property as a health hazard."

Mr. T, 45, lives in LA while his wife remains behind in the mansion-turned-slum. Phyllis has been seen walking around the neighborhood in a fur coat in the middle of summer. One neighbor describes her as "very spaced out".

...In the same issue there's a full-page comic strip - 'Berks' - which also stars Mr.T.

"NEW" MOVIE GOSSIP: Michele touched base with the following, from the Dark Horizons website, though with the warning that "they say to consider everything without a print credit a rumor":

"The A-Team: Universal's feature film version of the hit TV series from the 1980's, finished the scripting stage a few months back but has seemed to have halted since then. There were early casting rumors that Mel Gibson would take the role of 'Hannibal' Smith, but those haven't seemed to have been fleshed out as yet. Now you can add two more names to the rumor list, with Ving Rhames supposedly being considered for 'Mr. T' while Jim Carrey might be the new 'Mad Dog' Murdock. What is fairly sure is that the surviving members of the TV series will be making cameos in the film. Thanks to 'Sunny'"

[Before people start taking this too seriously, keep in mind that this doesn't sound like much more than the speculation on casting that has been debated on Onthejazz for over a _year_ now. For all I know, whoever reported this rumor to Dark Horizon simply followed _our_ discussions, as both Ving and Jim Carrey often came up (though not necessarily favorably) as possible names for both parts. I wouldn't take it seriously. Also, we know from other sources (including reports from Baracus News) that Dirk and Dwight were not at all interested in cameos based on the lousy first-draft of the script.

And so, all is still up in the air as far as I'm concerned...]

DWIGHT SCHULTZ UPCOMING CONVENTION APPEARANCE: Con-Temporal newsletter gives the following description for the Creation SF Show Pasadena, the weekend of April 3-5, 1998:

"Pasadena Center, Pasadena, CA. Guests: William Shatner, Patrick Stewart, Avery Brooks, Kathryn Mulgrew, Michael Dorn, Dwight Schultz, Louise Fletcher, Andy Robinson, Mark Alaimo. Info: 664A W Broadway, Glendale CA 91204; 818/409-0960; [email protected]; Web: www.creationnet.com."

[A note to anyone who might be interested in attending--Creation cons are NOT the most fan-friendly and generally give guests shorter (~45 min) presentation times compared to other cons. Autograph sessions tend to be exercises in extreme endurance. After one experience at a Creation con, I can't say I'd recommend one to anyone else, but if you live in the area and haven't had the chance to see Dwight at a con before, you _might_ want to check it out.]

...also in convention-related news, on Usenet I found a brief mention of a con ("in 1998") in the UK, which was scheduled to have Dwight and Gates McFadden as guests. If anyone hears anything further regarding this (I don't even know the name of the con, or the date), please pass along the info.

"ALIEN VOICES: THE LOST WORLD" NOW AVAILABLE: If you enjoyed "First Men in the Moon" a few months back on the Sci-Fi channel, then you can now purchase a copy of another audio performance by the Alien Voices group--including once again Dwight Schultz--Arthur Conan Doyle's "The Lost World". The description (off the Amazon web site, www.amazon.com) is as follows:

"In this fully dramatized, live performance of Sir Arthur Conan Doyle's classic, The Lost World, Leonard Nimoy, John de Lancie, and cast members from Star Trek feature films and all four TV series take you on an incredible journey.

Sir Arthur Conan Doyle's classic adventure follows a scientific expedition deep into the Amazon jungle -- and back in time. Cut off from the outside world on a primeval plateau, they discover a place where dinosaurs have evolved beside ape-men and the fate of the human race hangs in the balance.

Featuring virtuoso performances from the entire cast, riveting sound effects, original music, and audience participation, Alien Voices' live production of The Lost World is an adventure in sound."

Amazon lists the audio set for sale at $14, so if you can't find it on the shelves of your local bookstore, you can order it right on-line.

OTHER SIGHTINGS: Two more recent appearances ny A-Team-related cast members. Tricia O'Neil (Maggie Sullivan) made an appearance in "Babylon 5: In the Beginning". Robert Vaughn was also spotted in an episode of the new CBS series, "The Magnificent Seven".
