CLAY NEWS
FIRST HALF OF 1998

05-28-98: Not only will you get to see Clay on Primetime Country on June 10th. Big House will also be performing!

05-27-98:

  • Clay played in the AT&T golf tournament at Pebble Beach a while ago. Clay did experience a few abnormatlities, but is feeling fine now. Later on that evening, Clay was invited out to Clint Eastwood's ranch where they "jammed" together.
  • Clay will not only be at his own Fan Club booth this year at Fan Fair, he will also be at the Giant Records Booth and the CMT booth signing autographs.
  • If you want to be a part of a Clay Walker Mailing List sponsored by OneList, click HERE.
  • While Clay was recently in Portland Oregon, Daryle Singletary presented him with a Snake Eyes golf bag and clubs!
  • MaClay is now following her daddy's steps. But only in front of mommy and daddy. She's "performing" with the guitar her Aunt B gave her for her last birthday. Aunt B as you know, passed on not too long ago. Maybe one day we'll hear a father/daughter duet!

05-21-98: Clay's video for "Then What" is #1 on the Latin America CMT video charts! Way to go Clay!!! (That's #1 on 2 CMT charts for "Then What", The USA Charts and the Latin America Charts).

05-20-98:

  • Clay is going to be on Prime Time Country on June 10th! That's the week before Fan Fair, so this will be a great time for Clay to perform live before the week of fun. Set your vcr's! You don't want to miss this one! And hopefully Clay will perform "Ordinary People"! Love that new song!!
  • Also, I've been told that Clay will definitely be at the City of Hope Charity Softball game on Sunday, June 14th!
  • And lastly, I'll be adding a new section to my website soon. It will be a photo viewing section with lots of photos, so be sure to keep checking back so you won't miss it!

05-13-98:

  • I have heard that Clay is supposed to be at the City of Hope Charity Softball Game on June 14th in Nashville before Fan Fair. When I find out for sure, I'll post it. Clay wasn't at the annual event last year, but has made his mark when he smacked a homer in a past year's game.
  • The release date on Clay's album has also been reported to be released on June 2nd. I has previously said that it was reported to be June 9th. These are unconfirmed sources, so keep checking back and I'll let you know when I find out definitely.

05-11-98: Clay's Greatest Hits album is reported to be released on June 9th. But keep checking back for a definite confirmation. Because of the success of the single, "Then What", it is supposed to be included on the Greatest Hits album. Can't wait to find out!

05-06-98: As of yesterday, Tuesday May 5th, Clay's new single "Ordinary People" is available either in cassette or CD single form. The second cut that comes along with the new single is a familiar one to you Clay Fans. It's "The Next Step In Love" from Clay's double-platinum Clay Walker album! Go out and get yours today!

05-01-98: Clay played a concert in Louisville Kentucky last night (part of the Kentucky Derby going on). He played to a sold out crowd of 13,000 people!! Wow!

04-29-98: Clay's video for "Then What" is #1 this week, 04-29-98, on CMT! Way to go Clay!!! Yo mon!!

04-28-98: Fan Fair is just around the corner! The concert times have already been set. The artists for Warner/Reprise & Giant Records will perform on Wednesday, June 17th between 2-4:30pm. Also, the CMA awards will air on September 23rd at 8pm on CBS. More info on that as it becomes available.

04-28-98: People Magazine is having their 3rd annual online Most Beautiful People Poll. Go there today and vote for Clay!! Here's a Shortcut!

04-24-98: "Ordinary People" debuts on the Billboard Countdown at #62! This is as of the week of 5/2/98. Also, if you missed the taping of Austin City Limits with Clay last week, you'll have a chance to see it again next year. It will air in a re-run on January 23, 1999. So, go ahead and set your VCRs!!

04-23-98: In case you did or didn't see the ACM Awards on television last night, Clay wasn't there. It was reported in the ACM Sovenir Program that he was to present an award, but that didn't happen. More details as they become available. Also, Clay is a part of an Internet lawsuit. According to Billboard Magazine and writer Chet Flippo (dated 4/25/98), there is a country artist suit again a 'Cybersquatter'. The lawsuit was filed by 27 country artists, including: Clay, Tim McGraw, Faith Hill, Trish Yearwood, Vince Gill, Alan Jackson, Reba McEntire, Martina McBride, Sawyer Brown, Toby Keith, Steve Wariner, Randy Travis, Tracy Lawrence, Charlie Daniels, Patty Loveless, Pam Tillis, Deana Carter and Mindy McCready. The lawsuit was filed against Los Angeles resident Jim Salmon for trademark infringement, violation of right of publicity and unfair competition by the law firm Loeb and Loeb on behalf of the artists. The lawsuit claims that Mr. Salmon has registered Internet domains to each of the plantiffs above. The lawsuit alleges that Salmon linked those domain names to several WWW sites, including pornagraphy and commercial music sites. This is the 1st type of Internet litigation case involving 'cybersquatting'. The lawsuits purpose it to keep Salmon from using the plantiff's names and direct him to surrender registration of the domain names. To read more about his, check out this issue of Billboard Magazine. More details as they become available.

04-22-98: Clay's Rumor Has It album went PLATINUM as of April 6, 1998!!! And that's no rumor!

4-19-98: The single "Ordinary People" is written by outstanding songwriters Craig Wiseman and Ed Hill.

4-17-98: NEXT SINGLE CONFIRMED! Clay's next single WILL BE "Ordinary People" from his upcoming Greatest Hits Album. The single will be released to radio on April 24, 1998. But call now and start requesting it. "Holding Her & Loving You" will more than likely be on the album proceeding The Greatest Hits Album. The Greatest Hits Album is supposed to include two brand new songs; one being "Ordinary People". It was awesome to even have "Holding Her & Loving You" break into the Billboard countdown even though it wasn't pitched as a single. This just shows the power Clay packs into a song. (This single is #72 on Billboard again as of this week 4/25/98).

4-16-98: Okay, "Holding Her & Loving You" still may not be on Clay's Greatest Hits Album. It's on the Billboard charts however. It entered and debuted at #72. It doesn't say it's a single from any Clay album though. Instead, the source is from ABC's Radio Networking and it's a LIVE TRACK! So, this may not have even been an intended single. But it's out there y'all; so REQUEST IT!!! This is awesome huh!
ALSO!! Clay is a confirmed presenter at the 1998 Academy Of Country Music Awards. The show will air on CBS live on April 22nd (next Wednesday). Be sure to set your VCR's and tape the Clayman presenting an ACM!

04-16-98: I've heard from a couple of different people already that they have heard Clay singing a song called "Ordinary People". Well, I don't know the details of that being Clay's next single or not, but I do know this. The Roughstock Country Countdown has Holding Her & Loving You as a Chart Murmur this week for Clay. This means that this song is heading for the countdown. Therefore, it would seem to me that this song will be Clay's next single. I had heard that "Holding Her & Loving You" wouldn't be on Clay's Greatest Hits Album; but I believe Clay loves singing the song and loves the song itself so much that he's going ahead with it's release as a single and including it on his Greatest Hits. Now, none of this has been confirmed, but that's my news as of the present. Keep checking back.

04-15-98: One of my Clay Pals said she heard Clay's next single. The name of it is "Ordinary People". I'll let you know when I know for sure all the details. Thanks Christy for the info. ALSO, Billboard Online is reporting that Clay's current album, Rumor Has It, has been certified platinum! Woo hoo!! (We're not surprised are we!!) Na, we knew it would get there. I'll try and get the exact day or week it went platinum at a later date.

04-09-98: CLAY CAPTURES 9TH #1 SONG!! "Then What" is the 9th #1 single for Clay in his musical career. The single went #1 on the Gavin Music Charts the week of 04-10-98. WE'RE SO PROUD OF YOU CLAY!!! A little tidbit: Clay has had at least two #1 songs from all four of his albums!! AWESOME!!!

04-06-98: It has been confirmed that Clay's "Band Bus" was indeed involved in a wreck after the Norman Oklahoma concert. Nobody was injured and everybody in both vehicles are doing fine.
More on the Austin City Limits show. Clay's appearance will be broadcast on April 18th. Check your local listings for times and check with you local radio stations that normally air Austin City Limits to find when that exact show will air. Clay is scheduled to come on after Trace Adkins. Trace's portion was taped on September 14, 1997. Clay's taped portion was taped on February 20, 1998. Clay's song list includes the following songs:

Who Needs You Baby, If I Could Make a Living, Hypnotize The Moon, Dreaming With My Eyes Open, Then What!, This Woman and This Man, Holding Her & Loving You and What's It To You.

Don't miss this show! Also, get ready for Clay's upcoming Greatest Hits album. It's not far around the bend. Clay might shrug at the word "Greatest" on his albums though. He doesn't consider himself associated with the word. Well, we fans definitely have a different opinion. And Clay's humbleness only makes us love him more!
Yo Mon! Clay's single is #2 on the Billboard Charts (check my Charting The Hitmaker Page for other charts). One more step for your 9th #1 Clay!!!

03-24-98: Per a Clay Fan named "Jen" I have heard that after the Norman OK concert, one of Clay's buses was involved in an accident. I read where it plowed into a moving truck. I don't know if this is true, so I'll be checking back to let you know. I also heard that nobody was injured and "Jen" wasn't sure if Clay was on the bus, but some of the band members were shook up. "Jen" is an EMT and said she got out to help. More later.

03-07-98: Hope you didn't miss the Pay Per View of the Houston Livestock Show & Rodeo last night; it was awesome! It was Clay's first live television performance ever! And even though Clay admitted having early jitters, he did a great job, just like always. Buddy Lee, who just recently passed away & was founder of Clay's current booking agent, Buddy Lee Attractions, booked that performance last night. Clay gave a remembering thought to Mr. Lee and to his Aunt B who also passed away. Clay also performed one of my favorites, "Oh No" by Lionel Richie. He even played the song on Van's keyboard. Clay, you were awesome! Also, rumor has it that Clay's Greatest Hits album will be out before Fan Fair! Yep, it's supposed to hit stores in May. Hopefully a single will be released prior to the album release date. Can't wait Clay! And also, to close this segment of news for today, Clay will record "Holding Her And Loving You" on the album following his Greatest Hits. This is a tune previously recorded by Earl Thomas Conley. Clay also performed this last night. WOW! This is an awesome song and one of Clay's faves.

03-06-98: There is a new dance version of "Then What" hitting radio. If you haven't heard it call your local radio station and request it. I don't believe it's a version that will be for sale. But just like the original recording, this version ROCKS!!!

03-05-98:The Primestar 500 will be on the ABC Network this Sunday. Don't miss it. I'm not sure if Clay's big performance will be picked up in time or not, but watch just in case. Also Clay's up for a 1998 Country Weekly Golden Pick Award for Favorite Video Entertainer!! He's one of 10 nominees under that category so get out and vote!!! I'm sure we all agree that Clay's videos are definitely HOT!

03-04-98: Clay will be singing the National Anthem at the Primestar 500 in Atlanta Georgia on Sunday, March 8th. I'm not sure if the race will be shown on ESPN or TNN or which station, so check your local listings. I'm also not sure if Clay will be shown singing the National Anthem on tv. They may pick up the race after that. But he'll be there! This is the 2nd year Clay's been to the Primestar 500 and the 2nd year he's sang our Country's Theme at that race. Thanks Clay!

03-03-98: Our favorite 97-98 sponsor PRIMESTAR will be in the news this weekend. Those of you who keep up with NASCAR may already know that the Primestar 500 will be this Sunday, March 8 in Atlanta Georgia. Drive on!!

03-02-98: I've been told that the Austin City Limits episode that Clay taped on February 20th will probably air at the end of April. Keep checking back for exact date Also, if you can't make it to Clay's performance at the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo on March 6th in Texas, call your local cable company for details on how to get it Pay-Per-View!!.

02-23-98: Clay taped an appearance for Austin City Limits on Friday, February 20th. I'll try to get more information on when that episode will air.

02-19-98: Our condolences go out to all the friends and family of Buddy Lee of Buddy Lee Attractions (Clay's Booking Agent). Mr. Lee passed away on Friday, February 13th in Houston TX from respiratory failure. He was 65. If you would like to send a card, please send it either to the fan club or to: Buddy Lee Attractions, 38 Music Square East, Suite 300, Nashville, TN 37203.

02-10-98: CLAY IS TEARIN' IT UP!!! And big time!!!! This has been Clay's week. Here's all that's gone on with Clay according to Billboard Magazine.

"Then What", the single moves up from #35 to #34.
Rumor Has It, the album, jumps back up 11 spots from #33 to #22 ("Then What" is helping no doubt)!!
"Then What" debuted at #15 on the single sales charts and moved up to #8 this week!

02-09-98: Lori's & Julie's Aunt B passed away this weekend. When Clay and Lori received word, on Friday they loaded up on a couple of tour buses and went to Louisiana to spend time with her before she passed on. Our thoughts and prayers go out to the Lampson family and all their friends. Thanks for the info Darcy. If you'd like to send a card, send it to the Fan Club or to The Erv Woolsey Company, 1000 18th Avenue South, Nashville, TN 37212.

01-13-98: Clay's video for his current single "Then What" will appear on CMT's Delivery Room tomorrow night, Wednesday, January 14th. You can catch this at 3pm and 10pm EST. And I wonder why he picked such an awesome day to release the video?? Bet it has something to do with his little Angel, MaClay. You see, this is also her birthday. What a great day for the Walkers!! Also, I have a source that tells me that Clay will include two new songs on his Greatest Hits album. The rest will be, well, Greatest Hits from the past! And yep, Clay's the Six Million Man. His albums have sold over 6 million respectively. Way to go Clay!! Come on Lucky 7!! ; )
