BIS 401
BIS 401, Applied Interdisciplinary Studies, is an online course that enabled me to gain practical experience in my concentration areas in an applied setting.

In BIS 401, all of the knowledge I had accrued was finally put to good and practical use.  For my BIS 401 requirement, I elected to complete an independent study project with Bill McGlynn, the US Department of State's  Diplomat in Residence and a faculty member in the Political Science Department.

As part of this independent study, I traveled to Washington, DC for ten weeks to complete a temporary assignment in the Bureau of Oceans and International Environmental and Scientific Affairs at the US Department of State.  While there, I helped the Department by crafting a series of ten policy position papers, explaining the rationale behind US foreign policy as it relates to scientific affairs.

My interdisciplinary background served me well in this endeavor, and I was able to make a positive difference in the foreign policy of the United States.
