Internship
I was an intern at the US Department of State in the Office of Science and Technology Cooperation during the summers of 2004 and 2005.  As a part of my duties, I wrote a report on science as a tool for diplomacy in the Middle East for the Assistant Secretary of State for Oceans, Environment and Science.  I compiled this report, and an accompanying poster for use by the US Department of State in their continuing public diplomacy efforts in the Middle East and North Africa.  Click here to view the report as a Word document.  Click here to view the poster.

Additionally during my time at the State Department, I helped to facilitate an online science exchange between American children and children in Tunisia.  By harnessing the power of the internet and the teleconferencing abilities at the American Embassy in Tunis, it was possible for these children to share not only the concepts of science, but also to physically show each other what types of experiential learning occur in their science classrooms.

Another project I worked on while at the State Department was the establishment of a joint Master's Degree in Health Administration between an African university and institutions in the United States.  By reaching out to administrators and professors in this country, not only was I able to broaden their contacts with the rest of the world, but I was able to draw upon their expertise to help the African university get a struggling program off the ground.
