happy halloween

actually, i detest halloween, but i thought i'd be a nice girl and wish you a happy one nonetheless.

the cat pumpkin, much less evil looking than its real life counterpart, peter parker

i don't hate the pumpkin part of the holiday. i love carving pumpkins, or decorating them in general. if i am not in the mood to knife a gourd, i'll draw on it or paint on it or stick a variety of interesting things on it instead. this also means once the display is over, i can bake the pumpkin and make pie from scratch. there is nothing like pumpkin pie from scratch.

this is the first year i have used one of those carving kits, complete with patterns and little saws. we probably wouldn't have used one this year either but i saw the picture of the cat and wanted to celebrate our household's blackcatness. i was a little nervous when i found out it was considered one of the more difficult patterns, but it didn't seem all the difficult to me. a little fiddly, but as long as i went slow, everything worked out just fine.

i actually like it so much, i don't want to burn the candle in it for very long -- try to make it last. which is beyond stupid as by definition it has a finite usefulness either as a decoration or a theme. so i'll light the candle as soon as twilight hits on halloween and just let it burn all night long.

bye bye pumpkin!
