fall festival

i was the social girl this weekend.

jerry and joy always have a big party to welcome fall, say goodbye to autumn, drink a lot of beer. it's been going for ten years strong and always coincides with the festival held in the town where they live. you go to j&j's, hangout, eat a little, drink a little, head off for the festival for a while, come back and do it all again until about 2 in the morning.

it's a chance to see people you haven't seen in a year and a great place to do a little informal networking. i may have an interview as a result of a conversation held in front of a newly tapped keg.

it's also a chance to make big announcements. last year it was hannah and jack telling us about their engagement. this year it was chrissie and her second pregnancy. i announced i'd finally cleaned my desk and thrown away all my magazines [my clutter is legendary] and received almost as many kudos as chrissie and her husband.

late in the evening, things turned silly and we were all throwing leaves in the air like confetti. then we piled as many as we could find and ran through them like little children. it was glorious fun; i can still smell the smoke of the barbecue and the mustiness of the leaves on my jacket.

even the dogs had a good time

still wearing leaves in my hair, claire
