aia

hello, my name is claire and i'm an absentminded idiot.

i wrote an entry for friday. sure, i forgot to change the date on it, but i wrote it, gave it a cursory spellcheck, tested all the links were working and the archive and site map pages were updated. did everything except upload the bloody thing, so it sat here on the office computer all weekend long because i was too lazy, not to mention busy having a weekend, to come in and do the upload thing.

this trend is beginning to worry me a bit. i have never had memory problems. in fact, i have always been known as the efficient, organized girl with the memory of an elephant.

maybe i am in the early stages of alzheimer's. or maybe i am just trying to do too much.

a small break in the action

it was horror/supernatural movie city around here this weekend.

while we still didn't make it to the blair witch project [we will go this week if it is the last thing gene and i do] we did catch the sixth sense and the haunting at the drive-in. the haunting had some brilliant special effects, which were enough, along with lili taylor, to make me ignore how they butchered the story. and while i grasped the secret of the sixth sense about halfway through the movie, i still quite enjoyed it as well. i think i would give it a no reservations thumbs up if i could just wipe the ever present smirk off the face of bruce willis; it may be so much a part of his persona that he can no longer turn it off, but it annoys the hell out of me and i didn't find it all that appropriate in this somber a movie.

on the video front we watched dark city, another film with brilliant special effects and a wonderfully dark tone. jennifer connelly looks to me to be perpetually 14, but it wasn't too distracting. and i liked that while there was some resolution, not everything turned out bright and sunny in the end. i mean no one went back home, now, did they?

in the unconventional, yet still scary, horror movie category, we watched safe and in the company of men. if you don't think the latter is horrific, then something is wrong with you. it absolutely scares me that there are people so completely amoral out and about in the world, making life a sheer hell for others. safe was disturbing on a completely different level; both gene and i started coughing after a fume spewing semi passed us on the freeway and we both turned to each other in horror. every yawn, every ache, every bit of red skin that could possibly be seen as a rash or a prerash or a lesion raised our eyebrows. "do you think i have environmental disease?" became our weekend phrase of choice.

i will remember to upload, i will remember to upload, claire
