better

i was up early again, even though i don't have to go to work today. makes my spit glands hurt just looking at the picture

it doesn't even annoy me since i can toddle off to bed for a nap any time today should i want to. gene was still awake [he is in one of those up all night sleep all day phases] so i grabbed him by the hand and took him to breakfast where we both ate entirely too many pancakes. pancakes are a good thing; i remember my dad making them for us as children on saturday mornings, and my mother would make apple pancakes for dinner sometimes in the winter.

anyhow, i was full and gene was full and it was early and the sun was out so we decided to try that whole walk thing again. i figured no way would i be disgusted twice in a row and i was right. we drove over to the little garden park a few miles away and found we had it all to ourselves, with the exception of three joggers, all of whom happened to be chinese, who flew by us one at a time over a period of about fifteen minutes. the azaleas were in full bloom as were a patch of iris, although i thought it a little late for them. not that i was complaining -- i spent about ten minutes watching a fat bumblebee waddle across one after the other, slowly going about his pollination work.

yesterday we took a trip to the oriental grocery.

i'd been craving cracker nuts and pocky sticks [the coconut kind] and gene is always up for cruising the aisles and looking at all the things he would never ever put in his mouth. "look, honey! jellyfish heads!"

i spent entirely too much time in the candy aisle, procuring said pocky sticks, deciding against a bag of white rabbits and grabbing the above pictured bag of hard candies just because it was so colourful. i should have guessed by all the bubbles on the package that the candies would be fizzy, or fizzyish. they are not as bad as zotz, a childhood staple that had me frothing at the mouth like a rabid dog most summers, but a gentler kinder fizz. they are also sour enough to make my spit glands ache.

you just gotta love that.

all puckered up, claire
