growing pains

45 million for one bloody plane. amazing, isn't it?

i mean i am highly annoyed to know how much money is spent on the damn things even when they are flying in perfect working order, but it irks me six ways to sunday when one of them crashes, or is shot down. doesn't matter which it turns out to be, the plane is still so much scrap metal.

gene and i have entirely too much stuff.

this is not a stunning new revelation but rather one that was brought forcibly home yet again this weekend, after a few shopping sprees. we spent time in a used bookstore saturday morning and ended up with eighteen new books. we were awfully proud of ourselves as they cost but $13.00 total, but we quickly realized we had nowhere to put them. all the bookshelves are crammed full. there are books piled on every table in the condo. there are stacks of books on the guest bed, in the bathroom, on the extra dining room chairs.

so we went to the store and bought a new smallish bookcase, which we had to put on top of a trunk as there was no floor space for it. we also bought a new set of cd shelves to capture the cds that are piled in all the places the books are not, and had to bolt that to the wall. then we both had minorly brutal moments, collecting pulp paperbacks we didn't really want to keep forever and ever to take to the used bookstore, with promises we would not exchange them for more of the same but rather one or two good hardbacks.

still too much stuff. no matter how i box and package and hide and stack and even throw away, there is just too much stuff.
