free parking

i've been a completely lazy beast this past week.

the leaving coworker, she of peter parker fame, finally left, and she left her prepaid parking card behind. i've had the decadent luxury of parking a mere hundred meters from the office and i like it. i know i'm not supposed to like it, am supposed to be walking the mile from the park-n-ride to ease congestion and pollution in the city, but still, i like it. not enough to pay over one hundred dollars a month for the privilege, but enough to use the card until april 9th, when it expires.

the real benefit of parking so close is i get to sleep an extra fifteen or twenty minutes. that is pretty damn important these days, when i have been waking three or four times a night. and i've been having some brilliantly freaky dreams. last night matt damon and ben afflick were at my house visiting, only my sister's best friend lived there as well. the parents were away playing golf in birmingham alabama, and philip and gaheris were only about 3 and 4 years old respectively. mr damon was my sister's boyfriend so he had dragged his good friend mr afflick to our place for spring break. for some reason or another i had to drive them back to montana where they were in college and working at the safeway. they were wearing black jeans, white shirts with red vests and black bowties. it suited them.

[ disclaimer: i've never seen either of them in a movie, so i've no idea how they managed to invade my psyche. nor am i aware of any golf courses in birmingham, although i suppose there must be one there. ]

in spite of myself, i love the color of night vision green

this whole kosovo bombing thing... i don't even know what to think. i can't support ignoring the brutal ethnic cleansing that is happening over there, but neither can i see how bombing the crap out of mr milosevic and his cohorts is going to do much to eradicate an enmity over six hundred years in the making. i have a sinking feeling in my tummy that says this one is going to go on, in one form or another, for much longer than anyone would care to dwell upon. the slavs hating the serbs, the greeks hating, and coveting, the macedonians, the turks hating, and coveting, the greeks... the potential for widespread opportunistic war is sitting right there, and there is no easy solution, is there?

it's not like you can just buy the world a coke and we'll all live in perfect harmony.

i'll take the coke if you're buying, and the parking space too, claire
