OYAMA, JAPAN - Mission's Sister City

In the spring of 1999 a delegation from Oyama-cho (Mission's Sister City), Japan,
visited Mission and brought with them displays of Japanese art and left it as a gift 
to the Mission Arts Council.

June 3, 1999, twenty-nine pieces of Japanese art arrived from Oyama-cho, Japan.
They were uncrated, prepared, mounted and framed at

owner,
Phil Vince, who had to pull an all-nighter in  order to meet the display deadline, 
of noon, the next day - Friday, June 4, 1999, at the Mission Leisure Centre.


In October, 1999, a delegation of Mission artists, business operators, entrepreneurs,
and community members made a seven-day visit to Mission's Sister City, Oyama-cho,
Japan. The delegation included: Marilyn Davidson, Adrian Harper, Bonnie Maddalozzo,
Inge Bessmann Norris, Pat Patterson, Phil Vince.

They represented the Mission Art's Council which had arranged an arts and cultural
exchange with Oyama-cho, Japan.

Twenty-one works of art were donated by 14 Mission artists. The art had already 
been shipped and was on display during cultural week celebrations in Oyama-cho, Japan.

Each delegate stayed with a different host family, so had different stories to tell of
living with a family in a different culture.

During their seven-day stay, transportation and meals of the six Mission delegates
was supplied or arranged by the Oyama-cho International Friendship Association.
