There are many Paranormal terms for various aspects of Paranormal research.We've taken the time to list all the most common terms for you convenience to help you understand just what were talking about.

  • Amulet - An object that is thought to give good luck/have the power to protect from ghosts,spirits and ward off evil.


  • Apparition - a spectral image of a person that materializes even though a physical body is not present.


  • Apport � A physical object that can materialize and appear at will


  • Asport � A physical object that a spirit teleports to another location or makes disappear.


  • Astral Plane � A world that is believed to exist above our physical world.


  • Astral Projection � The act of having the spirit leave the body.


  • Astrology - The theory and practice of the positions and aspects of the stars and planets and that they effect our natural world.


  • Aura � An invisible light that surrounds a person or thing which reflects a person�s personality.


  • Automatic Writing � Disembodied spirits- The spirit takes control over a person causing them to translate(write or speak) unconscious information on paper without being aware of the contents.


  • Automatism � An unconscious or involuntary muscular movement caused by spirits.


  • Banshee � A wailing spirit (aka death omen) that will appear to be in two different places at the same time.


  • Channeling � spirit communication- A spirit will pass information directly to a Person who in return will relay the information on.


  • Collective Apparition - A rare sighting where more than one person sees the same apparition or phenomena.


  • Crisis Apparition � An apparition seen when a person is seriously ill, injured or at the point of death


  • D�j� vu - a feeling,knowing that youve seen,heard,smelled,touched,or done something in the same way more then once.


  • Demon - An inferior deity pure evil.


  • Direct Voice Phenomenon (DVP) � A spirits voice that is spoken directly A Person(s).


  • Earthbound � A ghost or spirit that was unable to cross over to the other side at death and is stuck on earth.


  • Ectoplasm � A substance associated with spirit manifestations.


  • Electronic Voice Phenomenon (EVP) � Voices and sounds from beyond that are captured and recorded on magnetic tape.


  • EMF Detector �(aka Magnetometer)An instrument for measuring the magnitude and direction of a magnetic field used by paranormal researchers to detect a ghost�s magnetic energy.


  • Exorcism - The banishment of spirits, ghosts and demons that is possessing or haunting a location or human or animal. The ritual is conducted by an exorcist who uses a Higher Power to banish the evil.


  • Ghost � A form of apparition or supernatural which is the visual appearance of a deceased human's spirit/soul.


  • Ghost Hunting � A research project in which various methods and equipment are used to investigate reports of ghosts and hauntings.


  • Ghoul � Demonic spirt that feeds upon human remains


  • Haunting � Reoccurring ghostly phenomena that returns to a location where no one is physically present. Ghosts generally haunt places and not people.


  • Hellhound � A death omen in the form of a ghost dog.


  • Levitation � To lift or raise a physical object without physical labor


  • Materialization � Forming something solid from the air.(ex) part or all of a ghost or spirit can be seen, especially if the face is recognizable.


  • Mist � A Photographed subject/object that appears as a blanket of light.


  • Orb �A ball of light often caught in photos which are belived to be a spirit of a deceased person. They are not usally seen at the time of the photo.


  • Ouija Board -A board with letters,Numbers, and words used to receive spirit communications.


  • Paranormal � Something that is beyond the range of normal human experience or scientific explanation.


  • Phantom - Something that is seen, heard, or sensed, but is not physical.


  • Poltergeist - a non-human spirit usually more destructive than ghosts of dead humans.Poltergeists do thing like thumping, banging, levitating, moving objects, stone throwing, starting fires. It is thought that poltergeist may be brought on subconsciously by young females under the age of 25.


  • Radio Voice Phenomenon (RVP) - Receiving the voice of a deceased human being through a regular radio.

  • S�ance - A meeting or gathering of people to receive messages, manifestations or communication with the dead.


  • Specter � A ghost, a phantom


  • Stigmata � Unexplained bodily marks, sores,sensations of pain corresponding to the location of the crucifixion wounds of Christ.


  • Supernatural -Existence outside the natural world.


  • Vortex � a image not seen at the time the photo was taken but appears as a rope-like image in photographs. Belived to be ghosts, or a wormhole in time-space.


  • White Noise � A electrical noise of which the intensity is the same at all frequencies within a given band.
