ORIGINAL 5th and 6th CELL HOP-UP: PART 2
Basic Installation Guide
This is were we left off on the car prep page.
Cut the exposed wire in half. Strip about 1/4inch of wire insulation off both cut ends. Twist the exposed copper strands together on both cut ends.
Get 2 pieces of pre-cut heat shrink tubing included in your kit. Slide the heat shrink tubing over the wires as shown.
Now were ready to splice in the 5TH CELL BATTERY PACK.
Make sure the front of the car is pointing to the left. Twist together the red wire on the 5TH CELL BATTERY PACK with the black wire on the cars battery holder closest to you while the cars front end is pointing to the left. It is the black wire underneath the red wire on the cars battery holder. See Pic Below.
Now, twist together the black wire on the 5TH CELL BATTERY PACK with the black wire on the cars other battery holder.
Below is some close up pics on how to splice together the wires and cover them with the heat shrink tubing. If you want you can solder the connection to add strength but the heat shrink does a great job of insulating and reinforcing the connection.
Slide the heat shink tubing over the spliced connection.
Use a hair dryer to heat the heat shrink around the spliced connection.
Your car should look like this.
You will notice on both battery holders on the car, there is a wire retaining slot the battery holder wires go through. These are used to relieve stress on the solder joints of the battery holders so that the wires don't break at the joint if they are accidentally pulled to hard. After you finish installing the 5TH CELL BATTERY PACK, make sure you slide the wires back into the retaining slot to prevent accidental wire breakage.
Lay the cars body along side the car. Make sure the black wire on the 5TH CELL BATTERY PACK is running along side the battery pack. The wire will help wedge the battery pack in place when you slide it underneath the cars body mount clip. (OPTIONAL) If you want you can hot glue or use thick double sided tape to help secure the 5TH CELL BATTERY PACK in place. I find that just wedging the 5TH CELL BATTERY PACK underneath the car body mounting clip is sufficient to secure it in place. Insert battery into the 5TH CELL BATTERY PACK and slide the spring end underneath the body mounting clip. Reattach the antenna and mount the body. Turn on car and your ready to race Enjoy!!!

NOTE (6th Cell Users): Installation of the 6th Cell mod is exactly as with the 5th Cell when it comes to wiring. The only difference in the installation process is that the 6th Cell mod requires modification to the cars body in order for the 6th Cell mod to fit under the body. More information on modifying the body can be found in the Deans Plug version of the 6th Cell tutorial. Click here
