"The Brother Down album, also known as Rarefied (or "Gobi" on some copies) is a collection of songs written and/or recorded in the time immediately after Northstar broke up. This album was never officially released by Sam, rather the tunes were burned onto cd-r and given to friends and fans. Because of this, an actual track listing is hard to pin down. The official website lists these 12 songs as being on the cd: Step Inside, Climb Over Me, Brother Down, For The Ladies, Got Soul But No Money, (Baby You) Got Me On The Run, Embrace Moi, Durban Poison, Magic On My Mind, Sunny Lemon Tina, Canadian Dream, You Would Never Make Me Cry No.

Brother Down was recorded in 2000, and the above listing is more than likely what would have been originally available. However, it appears that as more songs were recorded, more were added. Copies of Brother Down with anywhere from 18 – 21 songs are claimed to be own by fans, including early versions Paranoia and Taj Mahal. And yes, some fans outside of Montreal do own this record. Before Inhuman broke huge, this ep was spread more liberally to new fans of the music, through communication with the band and management. However, when it became apparent that this album was essentially a collection of demos for future official releases, it was asked that any trading of Brother Down be stopped. So far, the fans have kept the wishes of the band, and therefore it is unlikely that any more of the songs in their original state will see the light of day. "
