Download Avatarstudio

I hope you have fast conection cause the file is a 28 MB zipped file...
It takes about 2 to 3 hours with a modem...

Avatarstudio is a French program, but don't worry, it's imaged based
and you don't really need to speak French to use it.

At least, I translated the French Help page in English ;-)
Go to Floozemaker's site for further help and translations.
You can even use a patch to turn it into English :)

A) Avatarstudio version 2.0

This is the latest version of Avatarstudio (28MB)
Not my favorite for the choice of clothes since you can hardly modify the textures :(
But the avatars you make can walk

You'll have to dowload those 6 files:

- Download those 6 files and uuncompress (unzip) them into a same folder
- Double click the Set up icon too install it. (make sure your computer is in 16 bit color mode)

B) Avatarstudio version 1.0

Before installing avatarstudio 1.0, i suggest you create a folder on your computer wherein you will install this program.
The program don't create a "avatarstudio" folder by itself and files would be dispatched on your hard disk.
Especially if you want to install both versions: some files from versions 1 and 2 have the same names.

This one is the former version (25 MB)
But the avatars you make with this version are not able to walk unless you modify the wrl file, which is tricky to do. But, here is... how you can make it walk

About the Zip file

The files you will download are .zip files
It means they have been compressed in Winzip so they are faster to load.

When downloaded, first thing you have to do is to "unzip" the file, and for this, you need Winzip

You can get Winzip for free at Download.com
There, type "Winzip" in the search field and click "go"

If you have problems to install Avatarstudio 2
Check this:
- Be sure you are in 16 bit color mode oon your computer
- Be sure you are not using a 3D window at the same time, like Cybertown in 3D ;-)

- Put additional clothing
- Mix the clothes of avatar studio 1 andd 2 (if you have the both versions)

How to Use your avatar in Cybertown

Ok you just made an avatar in AvatarStudio,
and of course you want to use it in Cybertown :)

If you just want to know
how to use an already made avatar
you have found on a site,
just directly go to the "C)" part of this page.

 

In a nutshell, you have to:

A) Save the avatar you made
B) Upload both .wrl and .jpg files to your website
C) Put the url of your avatar in "my info"/"my avatar"

 

A) First, save the avatar you made

- in AvatarStudio, click on "options" then on "sauver" (save)
This will create 3 files, and they'll be saved in the "avatar" folder of AvatarStudio:

- The .wrl file: this is the shape of your avatar, the icon is like a web page icon
- The .jpg file: This is the texture of your avatar, the icon is like any image icon
- The .SAV file: this is how you can reload this avatar in AvatarStudio if ever you want to modify it.

It's a little different in avatarstudio 1:
- Under you avatar, click on "options"
- Then click on "Sauver" (save)
(You just created the .SAV file for now)
- Click on Options again, and click on "Export VRML"
Now you created the .wrl and .jpg files

B) You need to have a personal website

Don't worry, you won't have to create any webpage :)
Just use the site to "host" your files
This is the only way to use your avatar in Cybertown and let others see it :):
Indeed, your avatar in Cybertown is actually just a "link" to a website.
Some websites don't work for avatars
I use angelfire.com or virtualsolarsystem and they are ok

- From your website, you have to upload 2 files:
the .wrl one, and the .jpg one that's all.

C) Using your avatar in Cybertown.

Now you have a url for your avatar.
If you are using angelfire, it will be something like
http://www.angelfire.com/.../.../AvatarName.wrl

Don't worry about the jpg file,
it will automatically be used with wrl file.

- In Cybertown, click on "MyInfo"; button in the right frame
- Then click on "My avatar"'
- There, write the url of your avatar and click "choose"

Here you are, your avatar is set as default one and will automatically load when you go to any 3D place in CT.

Current errors:
- Don't forget to put "http://" at the bbeginning of the URL :)
- The url of you avatar MUST end with .wwrl

If you want to use an already made avatar, you can use the explanations above too.
