[ Home ] [ Paris ] [ Normandy ] [ New York ]
All my Normandy bike routes begin at Deauville, my favorite place to stay on the Normandy coast.
 | Only 230km from Paris, this beautiful city is
a favorite getaway for Parisians during the summer and on weekends all year
round. Many have their summer homes here. In fact, we are
there right now--we rented a
nice little villa it's sooooo cute, it looks like a doll house! |
 | Deauville is on the Côte
Fleurie--Flowery Coast--of Normandy. Any visit to the area will show you how it got its
name. |
 | Deauville and it's sister city
Trouville
(No, no, you can be fooled, but Deauville does not have a brother--Trouville
is a girl!) are the cradle of impressionist
painting. This is where Boudin, mentor of Monet (Rose and Jack in Titanic love Monet), painted
his evocative seascapes. (A very emotional man...) |
 | Deauville has something for everyone:
horseback riding
(my daughter), roller-blading
(my son), relaxing
at a cafe "sur les planches" (my husband)
and biking (me)! |
 | Deauville is the center of horse trading
and racing. August is when all the races take place. In fact, my
daughter and husband recently went to one and lost a lot of money because they
bet on the number 9 because they liked its name but he turned out to be a
terrible runner. (No offence, Odessa, it's not your fault we lost 100 francs
on you. Don't you feel guilty if we starve to death!) |
 | You can get a free map of the city at the
Office de Tourisme, or click here. |
