![]() According to an article in the February 13, 2000 Rocky Mountain News, development, sprawl and traffic topped the list for the most important local issues. Denver's growth concerns were more than three times the national average. In the same paper, the Parker development "explosion" was cited an an example of a town trying to deal with this growth. According to the same article, the Parker city council recently enacted a six month moratorium on applications for new development projects. The problem? In the '80's, Parker approved zoning for thousands of new homes to be built in the future. Now, the town's infrastructure (i.e. roads, schools, police, fire protection and related services) have "become strained" by all the new growth. Elbert County Commissioner John Dunn is quoted in the February issue of High Plains Rider as saying "If approved, these developments will add 40% more houses than what's in the county right now."
