The Objectives must correspond to the general goal of the initiative:
create business connections, attract investments, stimulate cultural and
educational exchanges, transmit human values. In the same time the
one year objectives should be realistic, in this initial phase the financing
of the project comes from only one pocket, mine. If the financial
situation improves, donations are attracted, if there are businesses
interested in new markets and opportunities, the objectives can be modified.
All objectives are subject to change based on feedback received.
One year objectives
A preliminary draft of the objectives would include:
- Create an Internet Romanian
American European Chamber of Commerce
to promote the cities of Timisoara and Portland as attractive investment
places.
- Create a support association with members in Portland
and Timisoara. It is expected that the Romanian American Society and
the Rosarians would have an active role on the Portland side of the
association.
- Create a site to present the core of the idea and to
facilitate a preliminary dialogue (this site).
- Contact newspapers to inform the public at large about
the initiative.
- Create a forum for exchanges of ideas. This will
be started after a significant interest is present.
- Print flyers about the Cities of Roses, Portland and Timisoara, to be distributed in the two cities.
- Create conditions to take part in 2008 at the Rose
Festival in Portland.
Support desired from Public
Institutions
- Open support for the initiative in Press Conferences.
- Information sharing inside the institutions (ex.
municipal and county counselors).
- Add a link to the site of the initiative from
the public institution site.
- Lobby at Universities to start public studies
about the needs and opportunities of the community.
Support desired from Community Members
- Active forum communication about ways this
initiative could be useful for the community. The truth belongs to
all of us.
- Direct involvement in organizing. A
group of enthusiasts (5-10 people) should form an Initiative Committee.
Such a Committee should exist both in
Portland and in Timisoara.
Final objectives
The above objectives give a bases of measuring the
progress of the project. In the same time there are some long term
objectives that are more difficult to check:
- Discover business and trade opportunities.
- Mentality changes, encouraging voluntary work.
- Support for a wider perspective on our common future,
like encouraging university students to work with public administration,
businesses and the Chamber of Commerce to make publicly available
opportunities studies.
- Develop direct connections between the citizens
of the two cities, emails and even personal tourism where one partner in a
city receives in his own house someone from the other city for one week.
- Finding a symbol for the values Timisoara stands
for (why not the rose?), for festivals, international exchanges, etc.
