| I was born in the summer of 1059. My father, unknown. My mother, a very sweet hearted young woman, always gave me the best that she could no matter the circumstance. My childhood was mostly like any other child's except my mother wasn't wealthy by any means.
When the balmy summer of 1073 hit I was fourteen years old, just barely coming into manhood and starting to work around the house and eventually the village. One morning I will never forget, a small band of unknown men came wandering through our village. It was at that moment when my future was set in motion; I set out to introduce myself to these men. It was this morning that I awoke early and ate before my mother had woken, without making a sound I crept through the stone streets of my small city toward the makeshift encampment these men had set up. Finding a lone man standing guard I introduced myself as Larka de Monte du Lak. He smiled a wide smile and introduced himself as Karek, the leader of these men. It was at this moment I seemed to notice these men weren't ordinary men. When I persisted to speak with Karek over the next few nights I found out he and his men were assassins, traveling far and wide working as a tight clan under the assassin's code. During my 3 years with the small band of assassins I learned even more about the use of arms of all sorts, thought I excelled at the sword. I visited many new areas I had not even heard of and saw cities small and grand. Karek taught me about most anything a young lad would need including how to read and write and also how to spy on an enemy and gain most valuable information. As with all good things, my time with Karek was not meant to last. One night my master and I were silently walking through the bustling city of Copenhagen when down an alley we spied a very well known merchant of the area. After spying on him for some time, my master game me the silent signal that I should alone go in for the life-ending blow. As I came nearer I sensed something just wasn't right. At that moment this merchants bodyguards popped out of a side entrance to a home and ambushed my master and myself. Evading the first few blows I was struck at least twice before fleeing into the night, I was to never see Karek again. The time I spent healing with the rest of my assassin clan I was also thinking, I did not want to remain in the city any longer. One morning at dawn I headed out on horseback, unsure of where I was headed but glad to be moving. As the landscape changed from plains to forests I notice a small sign stuck into the ground warning of misty paths and to continue west toward Chester of east toward Suceava. Chester sounded more to my liking so that's where I headed. Finding myself in search of a room I came across an inn named the Barking Parrot. It is here I stay for now, for how long is unknown, and what I may become here is yet to be seen. |
