| In 1981, during my junior year in high school, I became interested in genealogy. After talking to my parents and both sets of grandparents, I had a good deal of information with which to begin my research. Nineteen years later, I am still pursuing my elusive ancestors, and today the hunt is just as thrilling as it was on that first day. I entered into my research expecting to discover a mass of Irish and English farmers. For the most part, my assumptions were correct; but along the way I have been amazed and astounded at the people who constitute my ancestry. I've found soldiers, ministers, shopkeepers, craftsmen, frontiersmen, riverboat pilots and a criminal or two; among the farmers and homemakers. There have been Baptists, Methodists, Presbyterians, Episcopalians, Lutherans, Catholics and an occasional heathen, as well. No matter their lot in life, these people and their stories have been fascinating. Here, I hope to share the information gathered from those years spent pouring through dusty books in a courthouse basement; travelling rough, dirt country roads and walking miles through the peace and quiet of old cemeteries. I hope you enjoy it as much as I have. |
