Counts Family Genealogy

The first member of my Counts line that I have a good deal of information is Nicholas Counts II, born January 12, 1751-2 in Fredericktown, Frederick County, Virginia, to Nicholas Counts I and Elizabeth Sharp.  Nicholas had at least two brothers, John and Michael.  His first name may have been Henry as I have seen other researchers refer to him as such. He appears to have spent much of his early life in Virginia, but at some point the family moved to North Carolina,  Nicholas was married about 1773 in Orange County, North Carolina to Eve Lyde.

Nicholas served in the Revolutionary War as a part of the North Carolina Militia, but I know nothing about his service.  Sometime between 1786 and 1790, Nicholas and Eve moved their large family to Bean Station, in what was then Hawkins County, Tennessee.  A short time later, Grainger County was formed and Bean Station became part of the new county.  Nicholas always farmed and from his will written August 17th, 1838; it appears that he had become rather prosperous.  His will reads as follows:

Last will and testament of Nicholas Countz
