The History of the McKnight Family of Scotland, Ulster and America
The story of the Ulster Scots; or as they are more commonly known in America the Scotch-Irish, is one filled with hardship and suffering.  The name Scotch-Irish is a deceptive one as it implies that the people are a mix of two nationalities.  Records show very little intermarriage between the two groups though.

Our Scotch-Irish were primarily Lowland Scots who settled the Ulster region of Ireland during King James great plantation experiments of the 1600's.  His most famous plantation was Jamestown Plantation in Virginia, settled by English settlers.  Ulster Plantation was also settled by English farm families, but more commonly by the Scots.  During their time in Ulster they developed habits and customs different from both their native Scotsmen and the Irish they lived in the midst of.
