Bayne Mournbringer

The Druid - Provenance and History

Descendant of Enialis Galanodel of the house of Elrond, son of Ivellos Amakiir, ruler of the Elves of Rivendell, Isalith Amakiir was heir to his father’s throne.  He grew up with his younger brother Thamior, who was his only true friend, not for the lack of friends surrounding him, but for their lack of comprehension of his true desire.  From an early age Isalith was as other Elves, he had a love of the woodlands surrounding his home, but he longed to learn more about whispers heard when travelers ventured near; he longed to discover more about things of divine relationship with nature and divine spells.  Since these strangers passing by were so infrequent he would dream of venturing out in order to understand more about those called Druids.  As he was growing up Isalith always felt different from his Elven friends and family, he felt a connection to something beyond his consciousness, but never knew exactly what it was.  His desire to learn about Druids became stronger as childhood years passed and his impending destiny as leader of the Elves grew nearer.  Isalith’s father knew of his yearning for the secret knowledge, but strongly opposed it as he could only think of the future of the Elves were Isalith to dismiss his duty and his imposed destiny.

Isalith would often leave the Rivendell woods seeking travelers who could tell him more about Druidic ways, sometimes learning bits and pieces, other times being brushed off by weary travelers bothered by his insistence to know more.  On occasion he would notice things about the woods that he never noticed before, it was as if the trees were talking to him and as if animals were whispering about him.  He felt at home and started to understand why he was different from the others, he felt as one with nature, to an extent none of the other Elves could comprehend.  During one of his secret excursions he came across a young Halfling being preyed upon by a Giant Spider.  Isalith was terrified and not sure what to do, but could not let this young one fall to the spider.  Gathering his courage, unarmed he ran towards the Halfling and stared at the spider with a glare that could have made even the most battle hardened of warriors freeze from its intensity.  Without knowing how, or why, the spider stopped, stayed motionless for several seconds and turned.  It crawled away to go to whatever waiting spot it sprang from, to lay in wait for another creature.  Having saved the young Halfling without knowing how, Isalith turned and introduced himself, in return the Halfling responded as he trembled that his name was Cade Thorngage.

Upon reaching adulthood Isalith had ventured out into the woods so many times he could not fathom the number, but he knew that he could not be confined to a future that was not of his own choosing.  He made a final, life changing decision to defy his father and leave Rivendell to follow what he knew was his true destiny… to venture out and learn the Druidic ways.  Isalith knew once he had learnt enough and become strong enough that he could return to his homeland and prove his father wrong.  One evening Isalith told his brother of his decision to leave.  Knowing Isalith’s true desire, Thamior agreed, fully realizing that the burden of future leadership would fall on his shoulders.  This is not something he had wanted, but had always known in his heart that one day would happen.  Isalith’s father would search for him relentlessly, so Isalith decided to forego his given name and bare an alias, not true to his inner self, but one that would allow him to make his way in the world of adventure he was embarking upon.

And so Bayne Mournbringer left his homeland in search of his true destiny.
