"I
was never convinced, regarding the smaller clubs in particular,
that the removal of all standing was necessary and I was pleased
when this was relaxed following representations by MPs, fans
and clubs. While safety must always be the ultimate criterion,
there is no reason to ignore technological improvements made
since Taylor reported, which might allow for Safe-Standing."
Tony
Blair - pre 1997 General Election
RA:OL
- Now while I fully understand that at the best of times campaigning
for the re-introduction of safe standing areas can be contentious.
However it is my strong belief that with the introduction
of technology and proper safety regulations, there is no reason
why these areas should not be introduced into stadia around
England. It has worked successfully in Germany and creates
a true footballing environment for supporters and players
alike. True, total football is on the verge of being ruined
by fatcats who have a vested interest in our beautiful game.
Due to inflated prices, real supporters are being priced out
of football, terracing would reduce prices and bring back
fans who wouldn't of otherwise been able to afford a seat.
All we are asking for is the RIGHT to stand at football matches.
Not all fans want safe standing but why deny those who do
want it?
