In The Garden
A page about Landscape Architecture, garden design, suggestions, photos, and bits of the ongoing adventures in the dirt.
My first spring flowers appeared February 21st, 2009 this year.  A Snow Drop and a few Irises and Crocus popped up to smile at the world.  I am so excited even though the flowers are early.  They are on the south and west facing sides of the house, thereby benefiting from the heat reflected off of the house.  My Daffodils and Tulips and Hyacinth are also taking advantage of the reflected heat, just as I hoped.  Early spring flowers are a welcome change to the quiet winter landscape.
This year's project is going to be a dispersed Community Sustainable Agriculture garden in my back yard as a test and learning garden.  I have spent several weeks reading non-stop to prepare for it, and will of course continue to learn.  I have started some seeds indoors in humidromes last Thursday, and on Sunday, the first lettuce seed popped up.  I am planning on not only lettuce, but tomatoes, potatoes, corn, beans, watermelon, herbs of all sorts, and perhaps even some raspberries.

The whole point of this is to learn enough to be able to do this professionally next year for people in the area by planning, planting, and maintaining their backyard gardens.
