The Washington Chu Shan Chinese Opera Institute

Established in 1992 as a non-profit cultural and educational organization, the Washington Chu Shan Chinese Opera Institute promotes and preserves Chinese traditional folk and performing arts. A core group of outstanding professional performers and trainers effectively tailor Chinese arts education and performance to new audiences through innovative adaptations of pedagogical methods and creative program design. Interested in the role of Chinese opera and other Chinese performing arts in contemporary society as an important form of cultural enrichment and exchange, the Institute hopes to introduce Chinese opera to a wider audience, and in doing so, act as a unique cultural bridge between East and West.
