Feature Dog 1
< ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------->
Niki was the feature dog in August 2004.  She turned 15 years old at the end of the year, which made her the oldest dog in the kennel. Niki passed away in March 2005.

Niki was rescued by Mike Kane when she was about two years old.  It was the usual story.  Niki was purchased as a puppy by people who were not prepared for the normal Siberian traits, like running away when left unattended.  Those people then passed her off to someone else who was equally unprepared for the normal Siberian traits, like eating turkeys when left unattended.  Mike had a kennel full of Siberians, so they figured he would love to have yet another Siberian.  The clincher was when they told him they would shoot her.

Niki is a heavy boned, clunky girl with no mind to work.  Not really a suitable dog for sledding!  She was also a fighter.  Because of her aggressive ways, she was allowed to become a housepet only when the reigning house dogs had passed away.

Niki now has full roaming privileges in the dogyard since she is too old to fight anymore, and she knows it.  She likes to go for short jaunts outside the kennel, but she doesn't stay out for long, and she always stays nearby.  It looks like her wandering days are over.  Long naps in the shade are more her style now.
