I had been thinking about my friend who moved to New Jersey a couple of months ago.  I hadn't heard from her ever since we graduated last year.  Surprisingly a few weeks ago, I received a letter from her.  She was doing well.  That was when she told me she had moved over to the East Coast.  It was great hearing from her again.  Unfortunately, I didn't have the time to write back right then and there.  So, to make up for my late reply, I decided to make her a "missing you" card.  This was just a simple design that I thought up.  I had this blue paper that I hadn't used before and wanted to try it out.  I used the ready-made stickers and wire to give it a different look.  Originally, it wasn't suppose to turn out like a door, but I didn't feel like wasting the extra wire.  So, I curled it up to look like a door knob.  I added the hinges later on to make it seem more like a door.
Mother's Day is gonna be rolling around soon.  So in light of this occasion, I racked my brain for an idea for a Mother's Day card.  Am I going to be sending this card to my mom?  Actually, no.  This card is for my friend's mom.  He said that he wanted something simple.  Since his mom doesn't know English, I opted not to add any of those Hallmark phrases.  I also decided against any other words, because the last thing I wanted to do was ruin the card with my horrible penmanship (just think of what my handwriting would look like in a foreign language!)...  I used my brass stencils to press out the design in the front and then put together another boquette inside.  Although, this time I got my ideas from Hallmark flowers.  The one thing that I don't like about this card is that I made the vase a little bit smaller than how it should have been.  So lesson learned this time: always glue the vase on last!
Guess you know where the idea for this card came from.  This was inspired by my friend who has a birthday coming up.  Originally, this was going to be a birthday card, but I couldn't resist making those red shoes into the infamous ruby slippers, mostly because my friend loves anything and everything to do with The Wizard of Oz.  Once I put the yellow brick road behind them, the "there's no place like home..." naturally followed.  So, what started out to be a simple birthday card, turned out to become a "horse of a different color".  I espeically like how the words came out.  I printed out the words and then placed them under the card.  Then using my light worktable, I traced the words out with a thin black marker.  That's the reason why they're so neat.  I also decorated the inside of the card with those red flowers.  I know that they aren't poppies, but all I remember from the movie was that they were redish-orange.
