"ALL ART IS QUITE USELESS."
I like art. There's something universal about it. I also enjoy how loose the term "art" is, and even more than that, I enjoy seeing people get angry about what is and what isn't art.
It's something that is totally subjective, and it all depends on the person. I don't know much about art, or about what everyone else calls art. There are gaping holes in my knowledge. But it's always nice to come across someone who's work is inspiring and refreshing. I have respect for all the great painters, and shakers and movers, but I shall try and share with you art that moves ME.

Having been introduced to Alex Grey over a year ago, he remains one of my favourite artists. His work is fascinating, the detail in his paintings outstanding, the subject matter enthralling. His detail on anatomy is second to none, and probably owes much to several years he spent working with cadavers in the medical industry.
His work melds the spiritual and the physical, a world he has been exploring since an expedition to "find himself" brought him in touch with his spirit side during a meditative LSD trip in the Antartic.
The philosophies of Buddhism and Hinduism are apparent in his works, Grey uses his paintings as a medium to express notions of conciousness, energy, spirituality and religion.
His work has appeared on the Tool album cover "Lateralus"

Check out his website listed below and see one of his most amazing paintings, Cosmic Christ.

The one and only Banksy. A hero of mine, his work can be seen all over London, on bridges and street corners, on pavements and pillars. Public property is his canvas.
There's a difference between graffitti and useless "tagging", and an even bigger difference between graffitti and Banksy's work.
Using stencils to enable fast work, his designs are eye catching and thought provoking. I had the pleasure of attending a spraying, "celebrating" the Queens golden jubilee.
Check out his site for many many pictures of his work, and keep an eye out next time you're in town.
