And last week. Whew. Spring Break from work. Last year I spent it hanging out with Nathan and playing video games. This year, no Nathan the whole 9 days--I'll explain that little brilliance of Julie's in a little while. Instead I spent the week working on the house.
We got off to a quick start on the weekend, buying a water heater, plumbing supplies, paint stripper, paint, etc. I began plumbing work, and Karla stripping the front staircase in preparation for the new railing I would be installing. The stripper didn't work as well as she liked, and stank as well, so it was tossed in favor of a different brand that worked very well. Some painting was done also, but that didn't go very well either.
Things slowed down during the week, as we had Megan and Shaun and for a few days Karla's sisters children as well. They all tried to help, and were a help from time to time, but also required a bit of supervision--that whole bouncing balls off the windows thing for instance. Other things caused us to slow up--many trips to Menard's, repairing the water damaged walls of the bathroom.
I did manage to install the water heater, and all the plumbing for the kitchen and the downstairs bathroom, and and ready to start on the second floor bath. We turned on the water and everything worked well, including the water heater, but after leaving for a few hours I stopped back and noticed a pinhole leak on the old cold water supply, so I had to shut everything down until I can repair it. Not too bad though, one leak in all that pipe that I put in. I look forward to finishing the job next weekend. A couple of pipes for the second floor and then turning the water on for that bath as well. Oh, and the drain for the washing machine in the new laundry room. Can't forget about that.
And the staircase, and a bunch of other stuff. So, here I am getting ready for a week back at my day job, and looking forward to the break from working on the house for awhile. But I know by Friday I will be antsy to get back to work.
