next day's entry
previous day's entry March 2, 2003
Sunday (written a bit late, but I remember, of course).  Friday I left work early, drove to Ripon and picked up Nathan then to Menominee, with a brief stop in Marinette at Menard's and another at the house.  By then the furnace was installed, though not hooked up to any ductwork.  The basement was toasty-warm, and the first floor wasn't bad, so it looked like I'd be comfortable while working down there.  Ran to the house, Nathan wanted to get there before Shaun got home so they could hang out awhile.  We managed to get there about 10 minutes before Shayne brought Meegan and Shaun home.  No one would go to bed, so we all stayed up waiting for K to get home from work.  Then all went to bed.

Saturday, got up, got dressed, and packed video games and a TV and went over to the house.  I started removing more of the heavy dirty pipes from the steam plant in the basement, and Karla spent her time driving Shaun and Megan back and forth to the record number of birthday parties they were both invited to.  It was sad because Nathan really wanted to go with Shaun, but we decided against it.  Just didn't seem like the best idea.  Instead he went with us looking for a new reciprocating saw to do the pipe work with.  The cordless wasn't powerful enough, and the borrowed one broke fairly quickly.  We got a Makita at Menard's and nearly bought a water heater.  Good thing we didn't, as it wouldn't have worked anyway.  Went to a few other places looking for a water heater--found a Dewalt heavy-duty saw that went through the pipes like butter (hehe).  Really made things easier.  Also, got the smoke detectors I have to hard wire to the house.

Karla went to work, and Shaun, Nathan and I went back to the apartment where they played video games and I watched.  Or Nathan did and everyone watched.  What fun!  I read a book too.  Whole thing.

Next day, I woke early and went to the house to get to work.  I thought I was pretty much done when Karla got there, but there were a couple of pipes we'd missed.  Got those out of the way, showed her mom's husband around the house, and the work going on.  Went back to the apartment where Karla made a very nice Shepherd's Pie.  Yum.

Left at 3.  Got back to Waukesha at 9:30.  Forgot my bag in Menominee and had to go all the way back to Green Bay to meet Karla and retrieve it.  (Thank you Karla!)  LONG DRIVE for a very tired guy.  Even Nathan was tired, he slept from Oconto until we turned onto Hennie Street in Ripon.

And that was the weekend.
