Shenya, still curious about the nature of her surroundings, cast a quick detect magic in the area. Of course, the new mace that Killian had just picked up had a nice glow to it, as did a few other things that she had recovered from the orcs body. But what was most unusual was the fact that the walls glowed a faint touch of blue, typical of a magical presence that reacts with such a spell. Not truly understanding, she let the magic of the spell wear off before she told everyone. They all thought it strange, but filed it away in the back of their minds as they gathered up their things.
Using the spears left by the kobolds, and some blankets that they had, the group quickly created a shift to carry the bodies of the miners back into town. Killian insisted on a proper burial. On their way back up, and almost near the entrance to the mine, both Killian and Shenya noticed someone hiding behind the rock that blocked the entrance to the mine. Just as Shenya was about to sneak up on the hidden person, he stood up. Much to everyone�s relief, it was Mayor Sanders. His exuberance and elation could not be withheld, and he was very pleased that the group had returned.
�So, you have done it? You have cleared the mine and cleared our water? Please say you have.�
�We have,� replied Teemto, wondering why the Mayor would travel all this way just to see if the group had made it out alive.
�What did you find?� Sanders seemed more interested in what was there, and what had been found, than the fate of the four miners, or their bodies that the group had dragged back to the entrance. �Did you find any papers? Or coins? Yes, coins? Did you see any coins down there?� His insistence placed Shenya at ease, and she quickly drew out one of the coins that she had absconded from the orc�s body. Killian was actually surprised that she had that, considering that he THOUGHT he had watched her carefully. Duh, as was his usual habit, pulled out his small traveling book, and began to read.
