Her caretakers were told in so many words to "care for the children." In response the elven lord, her father, known only as Amyrinth, bstowed upon the abbey of St. Cuthbert great gifts indeed, including building improvements, large tracts of land, and servents. Two servants, unbeknownst to the majority of the residents, were actually drow elves, a sinister race of evil and wickedness. However, these drow had been outcast from their underworld, and found a home raising young Shenya and her brother in the halls of St. Cuthbert.

Shenya learned the art of stealth and subterfuge from her drow companion, Vanas. She also had a natural knack for the arcane arts, which pleased her father. Shenya was also able to practice many of her skills on a group of three young acolytes at the abbey who had a reputation for pranks and humor. Crispus, Killian (a young age 8 at the time), and Deborah had all thought that they were good enough to outwit Shenya, but it took them nearly 6 months before they could do anything to her. But alas, they caught her offguard, and the trio soon became a quad.

War entered the area, and the group broke up into different directions. Killian followed the Abbot of the monastary north to parley with the warlord, and was never seen again. Fearing future harm, Shenya and her brother left the monastary and set out to find their father and mother (who had been gone for nearly 25 years). They never saw their companions again.
