Frequently Asked Questions

What Should I do in an Emergency?

First make sure that you are safe. Then dial x3110 on campus to reach the Campus Police Dispatcher. Advise them of the situation and make sure to remain as calm as possible and to not hang up until they tell you. Make sure you tell them your location and exactly what the emergency is. Don't be afraid to call even if you are unsure

What will happen if I call for a medical emergency?

Once you place a call for emergency, a Campus Police Officer will respond. Simultaneously, the EMS will be activated via pager to respond to the location given. The average response time for EMS is less than 2 minutes from the time you call. The EMS member/s will evaluate and treat the patient as neccessary and call for an ambulance or transport to a local hospital if needed. All EMS members are state certified Emergency Medical Technicians and operate with state of the art medical equipment

Do I have to go to the hospital?

Every person over the age of 18 years old has the right to refuse care and transportation to a local hospital. The senior medical member on scene will evaluate the need for transportation and if he or she feels it is neccessary, you are advised to seek further treatment at the health center or local hospital. However, if the medical person on scene feels that your decision making process may be altered due to illness, medical condition, alcohol, drugs, or mental disability, he or she has the right to treat and transport you without expressed permission. If the incident occurs during the week you can also be transported to the health center for further evaluation, if the emergency is not serious in nature. Anyone under the age of 18 cannot refuse transportation or treatment unless a parent is present, once the EMS System is activated.
