Food: |

|
Canaries need a well balanced diet. A proper staple diet for canaries will mostly consist of a good mixture of canary seed. This is available in all pet stores and also supermarkets and costs around $2 - $4 for a 2Kg bag. (Note: Birdseed should always be stored in a dry, cool place to maintain the freshness of the seeds.) Fruit & Vegetables are also an important in a canaries diet as they provide a variety for the birds and also gives vitamins and other important elements. Some fruits and vegetables that should be fed are apples, bannanas, grapes, pears, broccoli, grated carrots, cucummbers and also grasses. (Note: Fruit & Veg should not be fed every day becasue it can cause diarrhea and does not allow for a very varied diet.) |

Water: |
|
|
|
|
|
Water is very important for canaries to have. They need fresh water for drinking every day. They also need water for bathing in. Most canaries love having a bath but others don't but water for bathing in should always be made available. |

Cuttlebone and Shell Grit: |
|
|
|
|
|
|
Cuttlebone and shell grit are also needed to be given to the bird. They help in providing calcuim for the birds and also sharpen their beaks when they eat it. |

|
Cage Cleaning: |
|
|
|
The cage bottom should be cleaned at least once a week. Food and water cups should be taken out and cleaned also. Every couple of months perches and the cage should be cleaned inside and out with warm water and a little soap. Make sure you rinse all the soap off and allow the cage to dry before returning the bird(s) back inside. |
