Here are some of the most common Japanese words you will find in mangas and animes.

INTERESTING FACT- My brother has got a Japanese dictionary & while looking through it I found out that "Chii" means level, position, rank or status. however it is written in Kanji & the Chii we all know is written in Kana therefore the Chii from Chobits might mean something else or it is just a name with no meaning at all.

TERMS
ANIME- A Japanese cartoon animation based on the manga. Usually a different person from the manga does the animation.
MANGA- A black & white Japanese comic book with tones & textures. Mangas are always produced before the anime.
KANA- Japanese alphabet letters, of course it is different different and nothing like the English alphabet.
KANJI- Chinese letters which Japanese people use. Most peoples names in Japan are written in Kanji.
HIRAGANA- You may notice some kanji (Chinese letters) and English words got some Japanese letters above them, that is called Hiragana and it is used to prounce words.

AI- love (sometimes people say "ai no")
ARIGATOU- thank you (you can say "arigatou gozaimasta" which means thank you very much"
ANOU- umm...
ATASHI- me/myself/I (the cute little rabbit from the book which Chii reads means "me")
DO ITASHIMEASHITE- your welcome
DOSHITE- why
DOUJINSHI- fan made manga
GOMEN NASAI- sorry
HI- fire (prounced "he")
KAWAII- cute
KONBANWA- good evening
KONICHIWA- hello
MIZU- water
NANI- what
OHIYO- good morning
OKAASAN- mother/mom
ONEESAN- older sister (you could also call your older sister oneesama)
ONIICHAN- older brother
OTAUSAN- father/dad
OYASUMI-NASAI- good night
SAYONARA- goodbye/see ya ("Je mata" & "Mata ne" also means goodbye)
SEIYUU- voice artist
SUMIMASEN- excuse me
WAKARIMASEN- don't understand
