| Here are some of the most common Japanese words you will find in mangas and animes. INTERESTING FACT- My brother has got a Japanese dictionary & while looking through it I found out that "Chii" means level, position, rank or status. however it is written in Kanji & the Chii we all know is written in Kana therefore the Chii from Chobits might mean something else or it is just a name with no meaning at all. TERMS ANIME- A Japanese cartoon animation based on the manga. Usually a different person from the manga does the animation. MANGA- A black & white Japanese comic book with tones & textures. Mangas are always produced before the anime. KANA- Japanese alphabet letters, of course it is different different and nothing like the English alphabet. KANJI- Chinese letters which Japanese people use. Most peoples names in Japan are written in Kanji. HIRAGANA- You may notice some kanji (Chinese letters) and English words got some Japanese letters above them, that is called Hiragana and it is used to prounce words. AI- love (sometimes people say "ai no") ARIGATOU- thank you (you can say "arigatou gozaimasta" which means thank you very much" ANOU- umm... ATASHI- me/myself/I (the cute little rabbit from the book which Chii reads means "me") DO ITASHIMEASHITE- your welcome DOSHITE- why DOUJINSHI- fan made manga GOMEN NASAI- sorry HI- fire (prounced "he") KAWAII- cute KONBANWA- good evening KONICHIWA- hello MIZU- water NANI- what OHIYO- good morning OKAASAN- mother/mom ONEESAN- older sister (you could also call your older sister oneesama) ONIICHAN- older brother OTAUSAN- father/dad OYASUMI-NASAI- good night SAYONARA- goodbye/see ya ("Je mata" & "Mata ne" also means goodbye) SEIYUU- voice artist SUMIMASEN- excuse me WAKARIMASEN- don't understand |
